The BATTLE THREAD [Debate]

WELCOME TO THE BATTLE THREAD

Image

Pick two or more sandbox characters.

In an all-out clash, WHO would emerge triumphant?

WHAT is the reason for their victory?

HOW could the outcome of the battle change?

Debate below!
  • Take battle location into account - after all, territory is everything for some heroes. Maybe even post a pic of what you have in mind!
  • Consider including the starting distance between each character - some are more effective at longer ranges, and others need to close a gap to succeed!
  • Include whether the characters are battling to the death or just sparring - maybe the outcome would change!
  • Think about whether or not one character's ability to prepare for a bout would give them a winning edge - stipulate whether or not they have prep time to tip the scales and make a more interesting debate!

I'll go first.

Invictus (Classic) VS Meshindi (Classic)

Image
  • Location: The Colosseum, empty
  • Starting distance: 35 meters apart
  • Fight is all-out, but morals on
  • No time to prep for either party
  • Each fighter has standard gear and is in their prime

Comment with who you think would win and why.

I feel like it would be in bad taste to argue for or against my own character, so I'm going to avoid making a conclusion one way or another on this matchup. However, I think it's an interesting one. Assuming Meshindi has his subdermal armor, I'd argue that gives him a significant advantage, as it makes him effectively bulletproof. There are some weaknesses, but with canon morals in effect, Invictus is unlikely to attempt to target Meshindi's eyes, or otherwise permanently incapacitate him.

Furthermore, there's a case to be made that Meshindi is a stronger CQC fighter, because his 'specialization' is in that field, as opposed to Invictus, who's a more well-rounded hero, with his primary skills being acrobatics and his intelligence, not his melee abilities. On the other hand, it's hard to gauge, because he was in few straight-up hand-to-hand fights against equivalently powerful opponents.

In the Colosseum, there isn't much for Invictus to use as an improvised weapon, which weakens him significantly, as he doesn't carry any weapons that could be used to bypass Meshindi's subdermal armor. His options for evasion are also limited, as most of the battlefield is a wide-open, flat area. If Meshindi didn't have his armor, I'd give Invictus much better odds, as he's an exceptionally resourceful and clever fighter, but given the fact that most of his blows would do more damage to his hands than to Meshindi's body, he's got few real options.

On the other hand, Meshindi's style of fighting prioritizes stealth tactics, which the Colosseum offers little recourse for. Invictus, who has incredible stamina and speed, could reasonably evade Meshindi for long enough to tire the Spinebreaker out, which would most likely happen before Invictus would get exhausted, as a result of the significant weight of Meshindi's subdermal armor. While Invictus would be unlikely to win a direct physical confrontation, he could outlast his opponent and deliver a decisive final blow- if he was able to stay out of range of Meshindi's devastatingly powerful melee attacks.

Obligator vs Surgath and Augustus.

Fight takes place over American airspace.

Obligator gets an indefinite fuel supply.

The Front Line (Classic) versus the Society of Superheroes (Classic).

The Front Line.
  • Nicolas Pendragon//Terminus
  • Brock LaVerne//Atlas
  • Rust Clarke//Magnetar
The Society of Superheroes.
  • Michael Carter//Invictus.
  • Teja Docesznic//Recurrent.
  • Hope Sterlyn//Gyras.

  • Fight takes place in the garden pictured above.
  • All teams have their standard equipment at the time of the team's formation. This includes SOS watches.
  • Standard morals apply, but the fight is all-out.
  • No prep time.
  • Teams start on opposite sides of the arena.
  • Who would win, and why?

I don't think the SOS has the firepower to put down Magnetar.

Yeah, not much the Society could do during that time. If you switched it to Teja, Elektra, and Ryoko and they'd stand a much better chance.
