Apollyon

Post by Apollyon. » Tue Apr 09, 2019 4:36 pm

There was once an idea.

While heroes dealt with missions at their own leisure, there were those who would deal with whatever threat or mission was needed, no matter how murky its waters were.

That idea has long since passed, withered by time and collapsed by its own ambition.

All those who once claimed to bear the flame of this idea have gone dark.

All but one.

One who swore to carry this idea until the very end. Not for himself: but for the world...

THE FOUR PILLARS

The Network’s basic training aims to break apart what one knows about combat and warfare and built it back from the ground up. It did not take a prodigy like Apollyon to pick these lessons up and build upon them through experience.

The First Pillar is...to master one’s mind. Even the finest of fighters can be felled when their mind and will are left to rot. The Successor of Shadows has trained his mind to use mental techniques that maximize on the efficiency of his very own thoughts. To first do this, one must learn to filter out the unnecessary components that make up the human mind, such as compassionate empathy, disgust, and panic. A psychopath such as Apollyon had little difficulty in doing this. Successful mastery of The First Pillar has rewarded him with a mind as orderly as a computer and akin to his steel will when it comes to defense.

The Second Pillar is...to refine the body. By Apollyon’s own definition, this pillar should be interpreted as not only training your body to its very peak but also training it to fight in any environment or scenario conceivable. By way of mastering The First Pillar, Apollyon has proven capable of mastering almost every martial arts system he’s been trained under as well as in any weapon The Network had to offer...and then some. His constantly shifting workout routine have stunted any regression of his body and has left him with a body capable of Olympian feats in any area.

The Third Pillar is...to embody war. Conventional, unconventional, and prototype doctrines are all standard issue pieces of knowledge mandatory for every Network operative to know. Apollyon’s penchant for solo operations has left him with an intimate knowledge of “One-Man Warfare”. He has become well versed in using intimidation and fear to sow disorder among the enemy as well as the technique of prioritizing key targets to cause the largest percentage of damage.

The Fourth Pillar is...to be one with the shadows. In a world where villains possess the strength of bulldozers and armed hostiles scan horizons for sight of their enemy, the usage of stealth and espionage are almost necessary. Though Apollyon does not consider himself to be as covert as his hero, Camazotz, The Successor of Shadows is still incredibly proficient in moving around without being seen. The basics of evasion were honed to a sharp edge once within The Network and from there he was taught maneuvers such as the exploitation of peripheral visions and blind spots as well as how to move with a light enough step to avoid setting off floor-based traps.

And then...The Foundation, the ground in which the pillars are built upon. Ingrained within Apollyon's mind is an obsessive drive to always improve. This drive formed The Foundation's conception and is vital in striking balance and full mastery between all four of the pillars. To commit even a day to doing nothing is to waste that day, an insult to the people who have shown Apollyon the way to fixing this world. It is for this reason why The Merciless Specter will continue to train. It is why he will refuse the concept of atrophy.

THE SIGIL OF WAR

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.”

His standard outfit, dubbed “The Sigil of War”, was made to share many of the same features as Camazotz's very own. Now, after modification from both Azazel and Carbon, he's made it to be his own.

The helmet of The War Cloak is capable of resisting a handful of moderately-powerful rounds though excels more in stopping the fragmentation and forces from explosions like his armor. The “ears” of his helmet serve as both earpieces and antennas capable of receiving different transmissions. Sound adapters within the earpieces help filter large volumes of sound to bearable levels and are capable of picking up smaller sounds such as whispers, should he make that an active priority.

His lenses are capable of cycling through the electromagnetic spectrum, allowing him to see in infrared and night vision. Some modifications to his lenses have give him the ability to see heat signatures through walls, provided he be close to them. A system linked with his earpieces allows him to "see" sonar pulses around him, though with a limited range. Like his earpieces, his lenses sport an automatic visual filter that lowers the intensity of incredibly bright lights.

At first, there was one distinction between Apollyon's own suit and the Dread Shroud. It didn't use a cape. After some convincing from Azazel, Apollyon has come around to using it.

Even with the cape, the Sigil of War boasts a very large number of new holsters and pouches. The armor of the suit itself ranges in protection, made to balance both practicality and defense. The limbs and neck of his suit are able of only stopping small-arms fire but are still very effective against bladed and blunt weapons. The armor’s torso is well-suited of taking a number of moderately powerful rounds and is even more effective at shielding against melee weaponry. Additional modifications to the helmet have made it strong enough to take a high-powered round.

To defend against less conventional threats, The Sigil of War was modified to cover a wider range of resistances and protections. An unorthodox Faraday Cage was constructed to seamlessly mesh with the actual armor of the suit, making him resistant to electromagnetic threats. Layers of insulation and fireproofing materials make electric and fire-based attacks less effective, though high amounts of either would be enough to harm him.

From his gauntlets, Apollyon is capable of ejecting a trio of razor-sharp blades. The edges of these blades are jagged enough to help deflect bladed weaponry and make his own attacks all the more damaging.

The standard equipment stored within his armor’s pouches are:
-Foldable throwing knives
-Small tracking beacons
-Thermite charges
-Plastic explosives
-Cluster incendiary bombs
-Mini fragmentation grenades
-Smoke pellets
-Tear gas grenades
-Pepper spray
-Oxy-fuel torch
-Small rebreather
-Cougalent
-Adrenaline shot
-Blood pack (O-)
-Flashlight
