Robert was in the middle of a lovely date with him and his PlayStation when his phone rang. Not his cell phone but, rather the phone that was on a private network that only rang when it was time to strap on the tights. He picked it up and could hear Cesar's gravely voice on the other end giving him the full briefing. Within minutes he shed his civilian clothes and jettisoned out his apartment window leaving behind a trail of gold and blue light.

Ashfall Nebraska

He knew alot about Ashfall, it was dubbed America's most festering shit hole five years in a row. Overrun with drug dealers, prostitutes, gangs, and anything else you could think of when you thought of unsavory people. From his briefing he got the basic rundown of the situation going on within the city and outside it. Rampaging beasts made of what appeared to be some ash like material that resembled rhinos were in the process of trying to biblicaly clean the city with a flood of blood. Images captured from Armada showed some kind of magically powered area in the fossil beds along with satellite images of a few other heroes/neutral parties arriving on scene to try and help. Now Chevron was being sent in to gain a bit of PR from this situation.

As the blue and gold streak tore through the sky above Ashfall he tapped his ear piece allowing him to reach the Armada. "Good to see you in the field kid. I'm heading into town to evacuate the remaining survivors than I'll join you over here." He banked a sharp right through the air descending towards Ashfall.

All it would take was a single moment for the tides of this battle to change. On one side of a street a white rhino charged forwards, on the other a group of drunk citizens wearing gang jackets fled, and caught in the middle a child running for a stuffed doll while her mother followed after her. The beast showed no sign of stopping its destructive path forwards, it's horn lowering, and its hooves leaving dents in the asphalt. That was when his golden boots slid along the ground between the charging beast and the innocent girl. "MARS" His hand rocket forwards in a flash of blue unleashing a blow with enough power to level a large building. "COLLISION"

He had only one thing to say after that, a line he had been working on for some time. "Everything gonna be okay because...I Am Here."

The problem that was more relevant to Vai, though, was that this did not actually stop the creature. The man behind her seemed to realize this was coming, and jumped out of the way to take cover somewhere else, and the now-three-legged rhino barreled into the spot where Vai was standing, adapting a three-legged gait without hesitation. It was slowed down a little, maybe, but it didn't stumble and it certainly didn't fall.

The other problem that was more relevant to Vai was that attacking the creature had attracted the attention of the others, and she was no longer on the 'ignore' list, but being considered a target herself. She was going to have some trouble to deal with.

"You gotta bust 'em better than that, crazy girl," the gang member advised her from behind a dumpster. "Once there ain't enough of 'em left they go down all right." From his tone, she'd apparently impressed him, although not enough to make him take her advice and shut up. It was also somewhat debatable what it was worth to have impressed a man like that. He shot a couple more bullets into the target, each blowing away a chunk of dust and ash.

Myne looked up from the chalk on the ground. The town was going... well. There were obstacles, of course - there were always obstacles - but it mostly seemed to be going according to plan. What was not according to plan was the giant robot standing in front of one of her walls. She'd felt him cross the threshold of her circles, and now stood staring up at the titan.

Hmm. She wasn't sure if it was close enough to see her - or close enough to make her out well. It depended on what sort of optical sensors were built into that robot. Myne wasn't much for tech, so she was intending to err on the side of caution. She twirled the chalk between her fingers as the titan put its hands on the invisible wall above one of her lines, pushing at it. The wall resisted, for a while. Long enough for Myne to start scribbling on the pavement again. The wall was in no hurry to be pushed down. Myne was fairly sure they were invincible. She'd never seen one shatter.

She did today.

The robot - or its controller, whoever that was - became irritated with the lack of progress at some point and activated a massive thruster on its back, crashing its entire body into the wall. Myne felt it shatter through the chalk, and glanced up with an irritated look. She didn't stop drawing, though. Her hand that held the chalk moved quickly, and in a moment another golden arc shot out, serpentine, and twisted towards the mech, trying to wrap itself around the titan's legs and bring it down to the chalk.

As heroes do, the blur of gold and blue arrived precisely at the most dramatic moment. He had guessed correctly or received proper intelligence that the chalk creatures were not particularly concerned with the innocents that might be in their path - they wouldn't have stopped for a child any more than they would have stopped for her doll.

The creatures of the Miocene, however, had not survived the ash of Earth. Their incarnations were not about to survive the collision of Mars. As heroes do, Robert met his adversary, and punched it in the face. That wouldn't have worked for an average person, but with as much power as he packed into the strike, he ended up simply punching the chalk dust right off the creature in a dusty cloud. All that remained when the dust had settled was a pile of shattered bone fragments, scattered out across the pavement.

As children do, the little girl was completely oblivious to the danger and retrieved her doll, then looked up at Robert in some surprise before her mother caught up and swept her off her feet. The gang members didn't seem to care one way or another about the situation, and continued in their flight.

Another day and the screams cut through the air. It slices past the silence as it so often does. It should e e disturbing,, make the stomach turn, haunt the mind. It's a carving sound that for her was all to familiar, she could remember when those were her own antagonizing the night. When they were because of her for all the blood and conflict that flowed off her hands, this time it wasn't Razor's though or because of her actions. The ballad of violence and it wasn't yet on account of herself something which needed to change. Rolling her shoulders and getting to her feet Rayne goes to change into clothes more befitting of the chaos outside. It's as casual to her as a usual morning routine for her, once content she went to check on Belle.

What Septimus was up to wasn't necessarily something for the living weapon to concern herself with, the kid though was another story. And as the violence ran rampant she had to make sure the girl was tucked in and then figure out what role the known killer should play. The motives they didn't matter, the faces were forgettable the lives at risk had no value to the weapon beyond Belle. That said Scarlet had always had a sort of endgame in mind.

Change

Things always descended into routine the perfect mundane homes were visited. People fled to jobs and then back home and for all diversity it became autopiloted until it was drenched in mediocrity. The chance of promotion or change wasn't what people wanted or those who did seek it out found the ones they didn't want. Colors fade bright eyes go dark the world was a drab existence that withered away. That was until something came along to break the hold of repetitions, this city was no different. It fell into its ways and finally someone had managed to grow enough of a pair to interject. A woman moves up the steps to survey the situation, a killer begins to work out the tale.

The dead open fire upon the dead, those alive but lost to their ways shooting up those who've already lost life. To much of a merciless behavior to be a hero, to targeted to be a villain as far as Razor could tell. Heroes come as they so often do, thinking with their powers or ingenuity they can fix the broken world rather than confess that sometimes things need to be let go of to progress. Military wants to help, latest slave dressed as a knight in armor. It looks mighty and great able to be the Atlas of the US or whatever else they might dub it. But inside Razor suspects it's probably someone so drilled into service a choice was never clear. This particular city needs the dead to pile up and to break a side is chosen and it's not aligned with those fighting the good fight.

A man was standing on the roof, he wore the colors of a gang and a gun barked trying to defend his friends below. He didn't notice the living weapon that walked up behind him and watched as a prehistoric rhino's horn passed through his friend. She can see it to be fair, a quiver in the arms a stream down the cheeks the gunman cared but today the side said he was the enemy so a hand consoled his shoulder. And then came the shove so that the grieving could join the fallen, it was ugly and visceral the crunch and snap heard between the screams of others and rumbling earth from the towering knight's moves. What this also did however was keep the rhino below, it was targeting certain people and though on their side Rayne wasn't so foolish as to think they wouldn't see her cut from the same cloth as her victims. Thus she jumped but moments after she shoved the gang member.

It slips away for a time, the cold breeze whipping past her the world just becoming blurred blue skies and lights. The times such jumps were made were many and all around the globe but the sensation was always there. It fealt like she was for a moment just unsheathed able to breathe in the world for what it was rather than what it needed to be. Then came the edge alignment, pose for the dive, grit teeth for the pain that was coming. Like the tip of a spear she dives into the rhino, claws go first but the stab widens as arms and body enter. Her entire body was a sharpness placed behind the facade of a figure. She tries to ball up in the creature. Bone and chalk like muscles resist but it isn't enough as it briefly fumbles it's body twisting and rending. Sharp as her skin could be, much as her claws could tear it didn't end just there however. Her bones metallic and able to be manipulated and grown out. From the back of Razor came barbs, more thorns at first small pricks against what she was caught in. They grow however more like quills of an oversized porcupine, then it was more like sword and spears radiating from the back of Rayne. From what she could gather the creature even after that wasn't dead, ripped open with a hole inside enough to almost split it in two and dozens of deep cuts and impalements and yet not quite dead. It was enough however for her to step back into the open.

A theatrical entrance and a surviving thug started to feel just a bit better. Just a bit more hopeful of someone on their side, until the blades falling from Rayne's back led to one caught and thrown his way. A javelin finding the sternum of the man at least it was over quickly. She wasn't on their side. Just assumed she was as awful as them and probably as such a target as well.

"Huh." Vai considered, as if unconcerned by suddenly being a target. She cocked her head and examined the thing. It did not escape her that the chalk fell before the bone. "The bone's just the anchor." It made sense, something had to animate the bone. She had assumed some sort of arcane or telekinetic force, but maybe those forces needed something to latch onto, maybe the bone wasn't enough.

She depressed a button on her staff and split the indestructible weapon into a pair of combat batons.

Image

"Let's do this then." She said to the creatures now focusing on her. Vai stepped forward until she was about to be in a ring of them and then burst into action. Vai's Reptonian anatomy gave her significantly more speed and dexterity than her foes, but more than that, her eye implants were made for pilots and quite good at calculating direction and velocity. Neural impulses to her eye implants created a path of action designed to avoid the most likely strike zones and she sprinted forward, swiftly accelerating past anything pretending to be human norms and charged into the midst of the creatures. Her first target was the creature bearing down on her and she spin aside at the very last second, the horn passing within inches of her body. She did so she attempted to bring a baton down on its spine. A moment later and she spun and danced among them, her batons lashed out at the nearest one, precision strikes aimed at its neck just behind the skull for a hopefully decapitating strike..but she didn't linger, she was already moving on. Her foot flew out for the face of the next one, intending to land right behind the horn where the impact of her bone crushing strength would hopefully shatter its main weapon from its head, along with about half the skull.

A lancing strike with her foot led into a beautiful pivot-spin. in which she aimed to side step the assault of the third beast and once more launch a decapitating strike. She did not believe any of these attacks would stop them, but it would teach her more about them and, hopefully, disarm them of some of their more dangerous weapons. She was under no illusion that they wouldn't somehow prevent some or all of what she intended to do, but if her speed and calculations worked, they would be used against creatures that as far as she could tell were more automaton than living thing and thus, less likely to know how to react.

She hoped. If not, well, life was more fun in the middle.

As his fist slammed into the hulking white beasts solid exterior thousands of pounds of force rippled through its body turning the once running construct into nothing more than shrapnel scattered across solid tar. As he pulled back his fist he smiled a bit at the young child who seemed to recognize him. "Alright young lady I need you to do me a favor and keep your mom safe alright." He smiled at her before turning to the mother. "Stay inside until this is all over alright. The farther you are from criminals the safer you'll be." With that he gently patted the young girls head before flying off towards the center of the city.

His intel told him they were congregating there and that intel was more than correct. From above he could see them all moving towards the center of the city on their own paths with criminals and innocents alike in their path of destruction. It would've been easier to ignore all these people and focus on taking down whoever was creating them. That idea would only result in needless deaths, instead he was faced with a task most would deem impossible; he would have to make it possible. Right now his goal was to save as many lives as he could whether they were the lives of law breakers or innocent families they were still lives and it was his job as a symbol of peace to make sure those lives were saved.

With a deep breath he darted down towards the closest beast, his fist letting loose a punch filled with cosmic energy. Once again turning the rampaging rhinoceros like creature into a pile of dust and bone. He gave the people near it the same message, "Get inside and hide until this is over.". Utilizing all his speed and power he continued looking to perform the same action across the city with the sole purpose of saving those that were still living. As he did so the skies would echo with his signature line repeating over and over "MARS COLLISION"

The screech of the RATO burning fuel as he pressed into the invisible border cut through the air, Arin put everything he had into bringing it down. Until he finally felt it, the resistance beneath the ARMADA's palms began to waver. Before with one mighty thrust from the thruster the line hovering in the air fractured before shattering completely opening the way to the fossil beds. Even with the amount of force he'd put behind it Arin almost hadn't expected to burst his way through. It had been hard to properly gauge how strong the ARMADA was without being actually deployed. Now that he could see it first hand though, he kinda liked being this powerful for once.

As the comms crackled to life he heard Rob's familiar voice relayed straight into his thoughts, along with a trail of yellow as Chevron blasted through the skies. He was glad to know someone was down there helping the citizens of the town, for a much as he might have wanted to he wasn't the right unit for the job. The ARMADA would only do more harm then good, right now the only way he could help was by stopping the threat.

Taking a solid look at the fossil beds now that the barrier had finally been brought down his thermal sight picked something up amidst the cold and lifeless beds. A woman, doing what he could only assume was sketching on the ground. A bit odd to be sure, but still he had to deal with the monster. So instead he decided it would just be best to warn the woman and wait for feedback on what the signs were.

His voice booming from the speaker as so it was loud enough to reach those on the ground level he called out. "Umm, Miss, I'd advise evacuating the area immediately." Arin planned on leaving it at that, at least until the coil of magic burst from whatever she had placed on the ground. It was then he realized what the source of the monsters where, and how he might have just missed his chance to end it completely.

However, before he could have time to think about it any more the attack was upon him, weaving through his legs faster then he could stop it. All before it tightened, slamming the two colossal legs together and leaving the behemoth unbalanced. Unable the steady himself Arin reached for the ARMADA's extended shoulder blade and with one move drew his PEC just as the mecha was brought crashing down to its knees.

Image

He felt the jolt of pain coursed through his legs, and before his operator's voice came through he already knew what happened. "Synchronicity dropped by three percent, you now sit at sixty-eight."

Gritting his teeth he swung with plasma bladed knife at the cables binding him, he wasn't sure if it would be effective against them. However, if raw force could work against the wall he had to try here. If he could just stop the woman, he was sure it would be finished, he just had to break free.

In conflicts like these, it was far too easy to choose a side. Pick one based on previous assumptions, or what rudimentary intelligence could be gathered in the middle of a battlefield, or just choose without reason for the choice. Monsters were an easy target when the other choice was men, but when the men were merely monsters of another kind, the lines became more blurred.

Mostly, they chose to fight the monsters. Some reveled in it and some regretted it, but fight they did. One woman, though, made it apparent that she chose neither side at all - no side but her own. If her statement was powerful, it lacked an audience for more than a moment, for shortly Talon was the only human left on the street. The men who could have been her bitter allies were dispatched by her own hand, and she was left with the bodies that remained behind, and the remnant of a creature from the past. Much of it was gone, dust sloughed off when she’d jumped atop it with her brutal attack, leaving a person-sized crater in its back.

It was held together by only a hint of a tether, a chalk binding from front legs to back, but this didn’t stop it from turning its head towards the one woman alone in this mess. Its attack wasn’t personal. There was no personality to the creatures at all, not right now. The strings that bound them, visible now as lines drawn on the pavement, leading back out of the city, were slack. Moments before, the lines had been invisible, carrying scurrilous commands through the planes they crossed. Inert, though, they lay still like any other drawing on the pavement, indistinguishable to the eye from something drawn by a child of the city.

Vai likely hadn’t had a chance to notice the lines yet, as she had other problems to deal with. The creatures she fought belonged to a place and era that knew nothing of humans - or of Reptonians, for that matter. Any weapon other than a natural one was foreign, and they didn’t know to react to her staff. Nor did they seem to know what to do about it once struck by it - their movements were automatic, searching out a target and trying to destroy it with whatever was available to them, with no sense of tactical advantage.

Quickly, she had decapitated some of her adversaries in a puff of chalk dust, destroyed the horns of others. Still they came, headless or hornless, attacking with the intent to trample her or crush her with what mass they had remaining. They were not smart, but they were certainly persistent - and she seemed to be the only target remaining to them. The gang members, while certainly appreciative that someone else was taking the hits, had taken Vai’s intrusion and the creatures’ distraction as an ample opportunity to start making tracks for anywhere else that wasn’t right here.

Ashfall City was not that large, geographically speaking. It was more the idea of a city with the name of one, not so much the population or dimensions of anything even remotely approaching the size of a city. As such, it wasn’t too hard for the echoing cries of ”Mars Collision!” to reverberate throughout the alleys as the second defender made his presence known, tracking down what creatures he could and dispatching them with the thunder of a powerful fist. If he noticed the lines on the ground at all, they didn’t last beyond the punches that shattered the creatures that he fought into oblivion.

His shouts had certainly attracted the attention of the native populace, though they seemed inclined to take his entirely sensible advice and watch the spectacle from the windows, safely ensconced in buildings. They were certainly curious, though. Ashfall City rarely provided the sort of interesting scene that attracted heroes - at least, not of the caped crusader variant. It was a spectacle to take note of, something besides the dust and the crumbling buildings and the forlorn hopes.

Maybe it was exactly what Ashfall City needed.

In the fields, the Titan spoke - not with authority, but with uncertainty. For something fifty metres tall, Myne would have expected a bit more of a commanding tone. She was certainly tempted to play innocent, but she ignored it for now. The cables twisted their way around the towering giant and brought it to its knees.

It bought her a few moments, and she moved her position a little farther from the center of the circle. Her sister was there at the focal point, caught up in the webwork of spells. She hadn’t said anything, though Myne knew she was still conscious. It was a bit of a surprise - usually, Diara chattered on inimitably, but it seemed the spell had her distracted. Near-motionless, she was entrapped, but she followed the lines now and then with little turns of her head, curious about all the goings on. She, too, was watching the titan.

Myne smiled, and left her to it. There was no harm in watching. She regretted that she was going to have to destroy such a fascinating creature, but if she didn’t, it would certainly ruin her spellwork - and if it failed that, Diara would certainly want to keep it for a pet.

Some things had to be avoided at all costs.
A knife whipped through the golden coils, slicing in to them. They resisted, for a moment, but then fell beneath the blade, lying on the ground in swirls of nothing but chalk. Myne had not expected them to last long, they had done their work. She had been spending the time she had bought sketching again, this time not a line or an arc, but an intricate, tiny depiction of a mythological dragon.

Her sister was fond of dragons, after all. Myne drew a circle around the creature, inscribed the runes, and let the chalk bring it to life. It rose, in a glimmer of a golden glow, and began to grow.

As his blade finally severed the binding holding him to the ground, Arin kept the ARMADA's eyes locked on to the woman commanding the spells. However, he noticed something else, a girl who appeared to be trapped in the fossil beds with him and the woman. His wasn't sure who she was or if she was worked the lady summoning the monsters, but he figured she couldn't have been much older then him. Even if he wasn't in the city, he had to watch his movements. Simply stepping in the wrong place could be disastrous.

Rising to his feet, he looked by towards the woman, who was once again drawing something on the ground. However before he could move to stop her from completing it, he was already too late. The circle at her feet began to glow as something began to emerge from the ground. However, unlike the coils which had shot at him immediately, this one kept growing. Until he began to realize what it was, it's reptilian form had initially led him to believe it was some form of dinosaur, however, once the wings expanded it grasped the trouble he was likely in. He attempted to give another word of warning, now conscious of the threat the woman truly was. "Please stop this, there's no reason to attack the town. Innocent people are getting hurt."

There was a loud mechanical click as a compartment in the side of his leg opened up, out of which slid the holster to the CY Sidearm. Swapping the PEC to his nondominant hand he equipped himself was the massive pistol. Unwilling to let the dragon make the first strike and hopefully stopping it before it could keep growing the ARMADA set three shots down range towards the being before moving at the mythical and ancient monster. He leveled his blade before aiming a quick stab underneath the dragon's jaw. While he wasn't sure magic dragons needed to breathe, it didn't hurt to try.

As he engaged the beast some part of him hoped Chevron wouldn't take too long before he could help. While Arin wasn't sure he could win against the dragon, he at least knew what to do. However if he just came down to him and the woman, he wasn't sure. The ARMADA wasn't well equipped from capturing units, and he refused to think about the alternative. An alternative he hoped it never had to come too.
