Vai had not anticipated their destruction this time around. She was ready when they kept coming and recombined her two batons into a staff. She cocked her head slightly, a series of new trajectories displayed across her vision but she wiped them all away. With their most lethal weapons removed the incoming creatures were only as dangerous as their mass. Their limited intelligence and utter lack of instinct put them at a significant disadvantage against the living predator. She spun her staff, looking left and right at two of the charging creatures. The third came from behind. She closed her eyes, not that it actually mattered with her eye implants and superior sense of smell and waited, counting out the seconds in her mind.

When she snapped into action she was like a whirlwind of white, flaring out with the staff she struck the lead creature in the shoulder and dropped the entire front leg off, no steps at all and she spun her weapon around in a brutal upper cut swing that struck the second creature's vast sternum and shattered it. Only then did she move out of the way, flipping backward she narrowly avoided the creature charging in behind her as it came within inches of clipping her legs. Her flip landed her on its back where another swing severed the spine at the mid point and she leaped free.

Automatons though they were, none of them were quite so badly controlled as to blunder into each other cartoon style and careened around to follow her. The one she'd broken in half now approached as two halves, a bit of a surprise even after what she'd seen. Vai though, just grinned. She lacked a weapon capable of destroying all of their mass at once but knew enough about skeletal structures to cause severing strikes and target weak points. This time she charged in as they charged her. A careful duck as she ran narrowly avoided a rude beak and another dodge avoided a smash foot. She grabbed the rib cage of the cut in half animal and swung herself inside of it. There she waited for another of the creatures to smash into it and slammed her staff back against the ribs behind her. The impact sent her crashing through the weakened structure and completely destroyed the front end of the beast she'd used as cover.

Force was a funny thing though and she slammed into the pavement with unpleasant impact that sent jolts of pain through her back. Vai had little time to think as another foot came for her face and she rolled quickly to the side, flipping to her feet a half moment later. She spun around in time to deflect a headless spine from impaling her like a spear and spun away from the rest of the animal. A swift swing of her staff knocked free one of its legs and another it's rear hips. She had to pivot and step aside again to avoid the back half of the beast she'd just destroyed the front of and then finished it's rear half off with two successive blows to the spine, cutting it into two more pieces and causing it to finally lay still. The third beast struck her in the side and nearly sent her sprawling as paint burst in her side but she managed to roll with the hit and spring up again. Two more strikes and this one was done, severed into halves and then thirds. The last of the creatures charged at her headlong from a greater distance and she unfurled her wings. Vai counted down in her head once more, waited until the last moment and sprung up into the air, using a beat from her wings to gain extra speed and left. The animal crashed into the brick wall of a building. It plowed most of the way through the wall before the front half of the empty building collapsed down ontop of it and put an end to it's rampage.

Vai landed neatly on a rooftop and folded her wings, breathing hard and holding her side. When she removed her hand she found green blood coating her glove and cursed. A quick look at the wound confirmed it wasn't fatal and she removed an injector from her medpack and jabbed it into the wound. Healing nanites flooded her system, cleansing the wound of dirt and debris and beginning to stitch the damage done to the blood vessels in her torso. It would take some time to fully heal but the bleeding would stop soon enough. It was then that she looked up and saw the dragon.

Oh for...and is that a giant robot?

Within the city, the detective had little trouble getting around. It seemed that there were not really as many of the creatures as initially suspected - it was more that each one of them was quite a lot of creature, and so it seemed like there were more of them. None of them seemed to care a bit about him, though. He had a couple close calls, when he got too close - they seemed to be directed towards things, and around wasn't so much part of their direction. Nonetheless, if he wasn't standing in their way, they seemed content to let him be.

The rooftops were safe enough, because none of the creatures in the city seemed to be able to climb. Benjamin wasn't the only one who had noticed that, though, and a few of the less savory characters in the city were scouting out perches up above and giving him vaguely menacing you-don't-belong-here looks. There was at least one mutter of "Fuckin' tourists," which had the double disadvantage of being both entirely incorrect and entirely implausible. Ashfall City was about the farthest possible place one could be from a tourist destination. At least Detroit was on the way to other places, and not in the middle of Nebraska where 'roads' were more of a guideline than a pavement.

Which one of them had spoken was impossible to determine, but none of them seemed likely to be the sort to put too much thought into their statements.
[/spoiler]
Benjamin halted his search as he heard one of them speak, no doubt criminals themselves who should be shoved right back onto the streets they were trying to escape from,
Psycho: Just kill them. It'd hardly be a fight unfortunately, we could literally take them all at once. Come on lets go.
Analyst: They might know something, we should ask questions, then break them if they choose not to talk, that way Psycho doesn't lose his mind from lack of violence.
Mastermind: Analyst has the right idea, go for it. If they fight back, we can handle it easily if you permit it.

He turned around, cocking his head as he looked at them from behind the lack of face and stepped towards the group of them and cocked his head at them and spoke, "You know you should really be more polite. But I'm perfectly fine with overlooking that, on the condition that you answer all my questions."

He held up a hand, in that moment he granted permission to mastermind to all the voices in his head to take a little initiative in his actions, in a moment there was a blade dancing on his hand as if out of nowhere, simply tossed from his other hand from his jacket fast enough without as much sign that it almost appeared to have come right out of the air to someone not expecting it, "But don't worry, the violent option is just as enjoyable for me, I've taken on more threatening people then a bunch of hooligans from a broken city before. Tell me do any of you know of someone, or something, around here capable of making something from nothing, necromancy, altering reality or time, or some kind of magic like ability. This is really important so don't lie to me about this."

As he said this he looked at their faces and body language, analyst, mastermind, and him, all working to decipher any trickery or deception that might be going on. Meanwhile, psycho was ready at any moment to blaze into action should it call for it...or Benjamin cease to pay attention to what he was doing.

Will you turn, and walk away, and let the innocents live? Or will they die in droves while you fight me for reasons you don't understand?" She didn't raise her voice, nor speak as if it were an accusation. It was only an option, one given to him by the woman who held the reins of the dragon.

He was smart enough to make a move while the speaking commenced, and not wait aeons. A sidearm that would have been at home on a tank slid into the titan's hand, and three gunshots echoed across the plains, bullets impacting the golden glow of the dragon. Each one tore through it, releasing not a spurt of blood, but a puff of dust. His blade found its throat, and the girl in the center of the circle screamed, spots of red blood seeping through her shirt, and a thin red trickle finding its way down her throat beneath the golden collar.

Myne lowered her chalk to the ground, already sketching. "Ah. Yes," she commented, not looking up. "That will happen." She wound lines inside the little circle that had contained the image of the dragon, and the lines rose in silver arcs, binding around her dragon and shining silver-against-gold in patches where she filled the bullet holes. "It's not too late to back away," she added quietly, as the dragons shivered, then burst into flames and dove towards the titan's chest.

Lucky smiled, although it really wasn't visible aside from some change underneath the mask which seemed to lift it up at the edge of where the mouth should be. "Excellent. Would you happen to know the name of the sister or where they typically might be found?" he asked, "Keep in mind, it's really only because you answered I'm not shoving you right back to those creatures down there. Because they seem to be on the lookout for your type."

While the smile was certainly Lucky's influence, the threat was definitely from Benjamin. He would prefer to deal with them as well, but in that sense he'd rather turn them into the cops...who weren't really an option right now. Benjamin wasn't really the fighter he was still more a detective by nature. But most of all he wanted to help fix things and that was his method. If he could get information through threats, and remain consistent on that he'd pull through those threats if not answered, and not if he was, then he'd keep to that. Even if it didn't really fit what he wanted.

This woman sounded familiar, but he wasn't certain yet on who he was really looking for and where. His research was not exactly extensive but it'd come to him he figured, eventually. That, and the mention of a sister pushed him further to thinking this was motivated by some sense of justice perhaps. He wondered where and how, since this person seemed to be the one behind it.

Over 1000 miles away

"How does it look?" Gotthardt asked as he moved into the operations room. His eyes darting to the large globe stationed in the room before he walked over to the center of the room and took a seat.

"The situation seems to be manageable so far. It's been a while since it was last deployed, but if anything it's more capable then ever. It managed to push down a barrier surrounding the fossil beds before we had time to analyze it. While Arin has taken it upon himself to converse with our main suspect instead of neutralizing her, that isn't surprising. In addition, Icarus sent in Chevron as well, with both of them there this shouldn't last long." Spoke up one of the many operators in the room carefully monitoring the non-stop flow of data.

Gotthardt merely nodded his head, watching the live feed from the ARMADA's eyes as he engaged the dragon. "And Arin? How is he fairing?"

"He's still a bit slow on reactions, not trusting the ARMADA's defenses enough. However he's doing alright, synchronicity rates have only taken minor hits. I don-" Before the operator could finish she was interrupted as a warning popped up on each monitor in the operation room.

Synchronicity has fallen below fifty percent.

Gotthardt's eyes narrowed as he stared at the screen in front of him before the warning disappeared just as quickly as it had come as the levels stabilized and floated back to just barely above fifty. The older man took a deep breath, before looking around at the operators around him, all of them clearly surprised by the rapid turn of the situation.

"Can somebody explain to me, what the fuck just happened?"
Ashfall

Arin stumbled back his eyes widening with shock as his grip loosening as the PEC slipped from his hands and fell towards the ground, sending up plumes of dust as it landed. His vision shivered as the ARMADA's optics unflinchingly enhanced his eyesight and gave him a sickening view of what he'd done. The deep red stains clearly visible as it soaked into the girl's shirt, the image searing itself into his eyes. While the woman may have attempted to talk to him, there was only one thing he could hear. An earsplitting scream that pounded through his head. The cry seemed never-ending, building up a sense of pressure in his skull as though someone was taking a jackhammer to it.

He looked down at the trembling hand that had once held his knife, upon which should have been dust, yet instead, it looked more like blood. I didn't... I didn't mean too. I didn't know. His thoughts became scattered, unable to see anything but the sight of a girl lying in a pool of her own blood. What he'd actually seen becoming murkier as fear and guilt blurred the line between delusion and reality.

The pounding in his skull only continued to increase, the pain building rapidly to an unbearable degree. Through no will of its driver, the ARMADA's hands began grasping at its head as it pulled back away from the blazing dragon. It's massive hands clawing at the rigid calcium carbonate as if it was attempting to tear its own skull apart. As the creature lunged at him the DKD Matrix sprung to life, doing it's best to divert the attack as Arin attempted to move away. Yet with the TSP-P unable to accurately discern the dragons attack path a claw managed to sneak past, gashing into the ARMADA's chest causing Arin to cry out in pain.

Almost instinctively the ARMADA sought to attack the creature that had injured it. Now barely under Arin's control, it acted out of its own bestial rage. The metal jaws that looked distinctly like a mouth began to shake as if something was pressing against them. Steel plates popped off and the sound of twisting metal filled the air as the restraints began to yield. Until it failed completely and a massive maw burst free before the mech let out a roar that trembled the earth.
Image

Its eyes burned as it glared at the beast in front of it and in one quick move its head shot forwards as it's large teeth sought the dragon's shoulder. However, using every bit of control that Arin had over the organic robot he made one last desperate act. He didn't want him or the ARMADA to hurt anyone else, the thought of having any more of the girl's blood on his hands was tearing him apart. So he did the only thing he could think up, he severed his ties with the ARMADA and pulled the robot's plug. Shutting off his connection to the colossal being and powering off the ARMADA, leaving it motionless. As if the strings puppeteering the machine had been pulled taut the bite paused just as it was about to land. Frozen in place, the lights behind its eyes faded away and its mouth began to close as the ARMADA began to deactivate. Slowly at first as the robot began to finally sunk to its knees before with one last growl it collapsed.

As vision returned to Arin's own eyes all he could see was the darkness of his cold metal box. The liquid that surrounded his body slowly draining, until it completely disappeared. Even with the battle around him, the only sound he could make out was his own rapid breath. Feeling slowly began to return to his limbs and with it a biting cold. Wrapping his arms around himself and curling up, Arin let his head sink between his knees. Leaving him alone in the dark, shivering and afraid.

It was difficult to miss a giant robot falling to its knees. Vai's attention was drawn by the act and she took flight , her eye implants focused in on the area where it occurred. They revealed two things, the machine leaking some sort of fluid, the artificial dragons and two figures in the middle of a bunch of lines and arcane symbols. I knew I should have asked for some of Xae's Nth Metal. She had no idea what the symbols meant of course, but it wasn't hard to figure out magic was involved.

The White Guardian altered her flight from hovering at high altitude to a high speed dive straight for the stricken machine's position. As she flew her eye implants scanned over the scene, detecting three signs of life, one of which was coming from inside of the vehicle and the other, at the center of the circle, was under obvious duress, heart rate and other bio indicators contained all the signs of stress. She banked her flight and deftly avoided the pathways of the dragons, aware by now that such constructs were directed at specific individuals and she doubted these would come after her, at least not initially. If they did, well, she'd burn that bridge when she came to it. For now she simply landed in flawless radiance, the sunlight giving her white clothing an almost glowing aura. She folded her wings on her back and turned her eyes to the stricken machine. Limited external damage.

The White Guardian altered her stance and used her staff to prod one of the arcane lines that seemed to divide the person and the machine. It had a strange way of not giving. Some kind of barrier. She considered this for a time and then turned her back to it and the other female and crouched down to where the fluid was draining. She didn't need to touch it to know it wasn't blood, her eye implants identified it as some sort of artificial fluid and her mind determined it was required to link pilot and machine on some level. She'd seen technology not unlike it before, though more advanced.

The White Guardian, older by far than all but the fossils around her but still young by her own species standards, activated the spear tip of her staff and wedged it in between the plates where the fluid leaked from, careful not to push it too deeply. She cocked her head and then pushed on the staff, using the spear tip as a wedge. The alloy of the spear tip, like the staff, was not going to break or give under such simple pressures and she was able to push apart the metal plates further until she could remove the spear and place both hands in the opening and pull with all of her considerable strength. It wasn't enough, the plates were heavy and she felt herself pushing against hydraulics.

Instead she slammed her fist on the hull. "If you're alive in there, give me an indication. Also if you could open the hatch that would be appreciated." She turned her head then to the female and her eyes narrowed. Human, decidedly. She picked her spear off of the ground. "You're the one responsible for all of this." She said, it wasn't a question. "Decided it was time to clean house?" That was a question, though it was more rhetorical. While she spoke her mind was going over the scans her eye implants had taken of the machine at her side, looking for weak points she could use to force the hatch open if necessary.

Chevron's fist tore through another creature as innocents began to cheer for his victories from the safety of the buildings. As it stood right now their numbers had been thinned but, they kept coming. He could feel the muscles in his arms begin to ache from the constant abuse of releasing that much Cosmic Force over and over again. Each blow caused his muscles to break down little by little and at this point he had destroyed nearly twenty of the hulking chalk beasts. Still there was more work to do before... he heard something. A deep, guttural roar that shook the very ground he stood upon. He could feel it in the air molecules and it filled him with fear.

His body rocketed upwards eyes surveying the landscape before landing on the Armada. The masterful mix of flesh and robotics sat curled into a small ball in front of the fossil beds. Directly in front of it was some kind of massive dragon made of what appeared to be the same material as the rhinoceros creatures. His first instinct was to rush in, to try and get Arin out, and to destroy whoever hurt the poor kid. He stopped himself though, these people needed him. If he went there innocents would die...he needed to get this done fast. He began feeling energy build up in both his fists as he pushed himself harder than he had before. Using almost his maximum speed he began zipping around the city looking to blitz the remaining creatures until no more stood. While he moved he began speaking through his comms to Arin.

"Kid I'm really hoping you're alive in there because things aren't looking to hot for you. I don't know what happened but, right now I need you to get back up. I'm counting on you to figure this one out while I take care of things here...just remember...you're job isn't to kill people. You're job is to save as many lives as possible whether their good or bad. Sometimes you have to push yourself beyond your limits, past your own self doubts, and make a stupid choice for the sake of saving those who can't save themselves. Now get back up and do what you were born to do."

"Razor? Help us!" Cries like these came as the living weapon stepped out of a burning building ash and chalk stained her figure as blood dripped from an opening in her side. The home had been blown up by a gas leak, Rayne had smelled it and then made a spark as one of the rhino like things drove her through a wall. The creature took the majority of the damage blown apart sparing Razor of to much damage besides a burnt shoulder and where the creature had hit. Grabbing the skull she used a mix of strength and spikes on her palms to crush the remains but paid attention to the horn. Instead she pushed that in while pushing her lower rib out. One bone falling free as another takes it's place.

She could feel it, a bit of bruising that struggled to let up. A burn inside her chest from something out of place but being forced to stay. She had endured worse, as to why she even bothered? For Belle. Whatever these fossils were they had a value and she could safe keep one of them. Of course the pair Rayne traveled with would probably be on the run constantly, that didn't mean they needed to be broke however. At least not Belle, if her and the old vampire wanted to get by in rags and eating scraps fine but the child should have options. Eventually her focus went to those reaching out to her in the now though. "Why should I?"

Then it came a chorus of word vomit and redundant vocabulary. They said she was one of them, she was not. That this town needed her, but at the moment the people and town were not all one in the same. Said that there was a dragon to be slain, she was no dragon slayer. One said he too had a child, and jade eyes gave him a deathly glare. "Too?" Steps backward were made, pleas about how he just meant to say he had a family. Razor could see it however this man knew, and fates were sealed then and there. "The big guy there to long, that's where we go."

With that her and seven thugs marched through the streets telling all they could to lock their doors. A encouragement to those who would fight that those with families form the back line as they went to battle. Some considered lying, until a liar was called out and Rayne planted her fist below a liar's jaw, with points cracking through a liar's crown. She now fought alongside honest men. Their encounters were few in number, a man much faster and leagues stronger was at work. A majority of the creatures caught by whoever the golden figure might be. As for the makeshift battalion behind Razor they encountered three in total. Bats, sledge hammers, pipes chairs any weapon would do up close if there was enough of them. They brought guns, from rifles to shotguns and pistols to Uzis. Alone it was a pathetic attempt in volume however it made far more progress. Some of course died on the way, Rayne paid attention to that.

Mounting a rhino as it was being shot and pinning it to the ground with a spike through the neck letting its momentum carry it forward and into two halves, that didn't bother her. The gangland initiation given to the fallen halfs done with an increased level in violence was hardly impactful to her. She cared instead for the thugs who cried or hesitated to leave the fallen for a moment. Those who couldn't get off their ass she killed, broken men and women weren't going to fight this battle. Those who carried on however they were of use. And in time they got close to the heart of confrontation where the earth trembled as a giant had changed its stance to one that didn't say combat. A living weapon looked at it in disgust before turning to her makeshift temporary faction.

She reached out and then quills burst from her hands, spikes ripping into various gangsters, specifically those who fought for themselves. Those who had families or truly saw their colors as what made family were sparred. "Stick together and remember this for now." She didn't need to specify what 'this' was they could feel it. A change what kind of change wasn't for Rayne to say, she just could identify that they had come together to get here, and if they stayed that way they might survive whatever else was thrown at them. "If you want revenge save it for after we've had a few drinks." They began to retreat and with that the living weapon advanced towards where everyone else seemed gathered.

Someone was a bit aways but close enough to be heard the summoner of dragons it would seem. A woman in white was around the towering machine. Hero probably looked like she wanted to help the pilot. Another woman sat and seemed bound with a body recently given additional color. Source of wounds Razor couldn't say though they seemed the size of gunshots. "Our either of you two going to stop sitting on your ass?" Rayne did her best to speak loudly but she only cared for two people on the battlefield at the moment. Those who currently in her eyes were weighted down. Those old enough to make a choice but not able to make a choice in the moment. To weak or afraid to make change for themselves let alone others, their blood was the kind the living weapon liked to see on her hands.

The titan fell, and not to an attack.

Myne watched it look between the dragon and her sister, watched the realization strike it after her words. Watch it crumble and topple, helpless. Weak. Lacking the strength to do what must be done. It was where so many of them failed, she knew. Myne was determined to succeed. She gave the titan a tight smile, and started to draw another golden cord. She'd sent a similar one at it before, a golden arc that wrapped its legs and tripped it up. The line she drew now was different, though, and when it rose from the pavement, it was not golden alone, but shot through with silver sigils that glistened in time to the heartbeat of the spellbound anchor.

Myne was not particularly interested in drawing this out - she didn't go for the legs, but for the throat, attempting to wind the line around the titan's neck in a collar, much like the one that trapped her sister.

Bind it while it's down.

She'd have to see if that worked. The titan was... strange. It was possible that a binding around the robot itself wouldn't be enough. If she could get to the pilot, though... that had potential. For now, though, she had other things to deal with. They weren't alone any more. Others had arrived, apparently leaving the city to what devices remained within. Another woman, armed with a spear and a series of accusations.

Myne did not bother to deny them. "Responsible? Yes. I am." She shifted her chalk, sketching a tether inside a circle, lines rebinding her chalklings. She didn't want them running rampant through the city, and so these markings were lines of recall. She pulled them back, urging them out of the city again. They came slowly, to wait at the borders of her circles when they arrived. "Someone needs to be," she added, to her statement. "Ashfall has suffered too long. I won't sit by and watch another generation grow up like the last, trading away all their values for whatever illusion they think will set them free, but all they're doing is locking themselves in to another cage." She smiled, tightly.

Another man had arrived, blue and gold and determined to be heroic. He seemed more intent on the downed titan than on Myne, though he did give her chalk dragon a glance. Myne held it tightly bound, flapping dusty wings in the air, keeping it from attacking further so long as she herself wasn't under attack. It was not her goal to strike down those who wanted to do good. She just wanted to show them what aid was needed. What could be done. A woman arrived, with accusations Myne could understand, prompting the others to get up, get to work. It seemed as good an opening as any.

"Help me," she offered, most of her attention back on the woman with the spear, "Go to the places where I can't reach. Ferret out the murderers, the traffickers. Tear down the cages with me. Set the people of Ashfall free."

"Look, I don't know anything!" the thug gabbled a protest, his eyes darting back down to the streets below. "The kid's name is... uh, Diana or Dora or s...something like that. I don't know! She's always trailing after her sister. Look, man, it ain't my fault!" He didn't seem interested in hiding anything from the very scary looking dude right in front of him, apparently deciding that potential death later was a much preferable fate to certain death right now.

His attention was split between the scary dude with all the questions and the horror on the street below. The danger had seemed to have passed for a while, but after a couple moments, another of the beasts came lumbering back down the street, placidly making its way back the way it had come. A second followed, and the thug shuddered, evidently greatly concerned by the idea of being tossed down there. "I didn't do nothing wrong!" That was certainly a lie, and he seemed to know it, but like many of his ilk, he was well-used to the idea of protesting his evidence, even when all evidence pointed to the contrary.

Another creature fell victim to the explosive power of the cosmic force, it's destructive power turning it into nothing more than a cloud of dust. Chevron's arms began to ache now, he could feel his nerves starting to fire on all cylinders. His body now growing louder and more demanding that he stopped pushing himself. He pushed that feeling down, bottled it up, and went back to doing his job. Even if it destroyed him he had to help these people so he could help Arin.

He found the next beast only a few streets over only this time, it turned around. It's charge shifted to one that led out of the city and away from the people. He flew up again taking in the view of those that remained turning tail and fleeing the city. Civilians saw this too and their cheers rang out with some even shouting praise at the gold and blue hero. He looked at one small boy who stuck his head out the window, Chevron gave him a slight gesture before flying off to follow them.

For some reason whoever was behind this had called her creatures back to the fossil beds. Maybe he was too effective at telling everyone to hide or maybe she wanted them to fight off whoever it was that stood there now. Either way Chevron took a good look at her, her drawing in the dirt, and the small child she had tangled up in her web of what he could only assume was magic. He could feel his blood starting to heat up...who could do something so evil as to use a child for something like this. Maybe the child was involved or maybe she was just a hostage; either option didn't make him any less furious. Her words were even more infuriating, asking someone to go back, to undo all the work he had done to save lives.

"Thats...THATS ENOUGH!"
His voice boomed out over the fossil beds with something most had never heard from him...his voice was filled with rage. "Innocent people are dying, you have all this power and....and you use it to flood this city with blood." His fingers curled into tight fists that began to emit a blue light. All her work was on this ground, her sigils, her dragon, and he could only hope her rhinocerous's were as well. "What your doing...stops NOW!" His hand rocketed forwards fueled by raw destructive power before it's angle shifted entirely and he slammed his fist into the very ground they stood on."SATURN COLLISION"A blow damn near close to the strongest one he could use delivered an amount of force strong enough to turn a city into a pile of rubble. While the energy was released into the ground the Cosmic Force would handle most of the destructive ramifications stopping him from wiping out everything like a nuclear bomb. His goal was to break it all, to shatter as many of her magic sigils as possible. As the massive blast of wind erupted from the point of impact Chevron hoped he would be standing in the middle of a newly formed crater.
