Initially, Contrail didn’t know whether or not his shots actually hit. Judgement was relegated to after the fighting had ceased, when the dust had cleared and whatever substance that was holding Myne had finally been taken off of her body. He holstered his Luger and unslung the M1928 from his side, raising it and pressing his hand to the trigger; he didn’t have an opportunity to fire off a shot, however, seeing as the pink-haired woman who’d cast this strange bubble slammed into Contrail right as he poised to fire. The impact sent both him and his submachine gun flying out of the anomaly and onto the hard ground, slamming into the mud back-first and turning onto his stomach from the momentum. As he lay face-down in the dirt, Contrail’s hand grabbed at a patch of grass and ripped it from the ground, steeling his body as he tried to power through having the breath knocked from his lungs. Everything hurt— his head rang, his stomach and chest burned from a lack of oxygen and his arms felt nearly broken, fractured at the very least as the fading adrenaline in his body exposed the pain that had been hiding within his body after the crash. After a few steadying gasps of air, Brock felt his breath return to him— and the first noise out of his mouth was an agonizing scream.

Fire, lapping at the inside of his helmet and obscuring the lens of his eyeholes with flashes of orange and yellow. His flight suit, imperfect in its initial testing stages, had failed irreparably. On the White Cliffs of Dover, Brock furiously sought to extinguish the flames from his body as paramedics from the RAF base rushed towards him in an attempt to—

Help.

Brock wanted to scream the words out into the night air but his voice had no weight, no volume. Only a harsh cough as an invisible fire swept over his body, the sensation and smell of searing skin trapped within his helmet. Wretching at the stimuli wracking his brain, the aviator grabbed at the flight helmet and tore it off, casting it into the mud as a hand scrambled for the second loaded Luger open his hip. Once his charred fingers found purchase, the burning, scorched pilot slowly made his way to his feet, melting rubber boots depressing the scorched earth beneath him as he activated his jetpack and sailed towards the bubble while all others were distracted amongst fighting each other. With the foam decaying and slashed from her body, Brock could clearly see Myne’s scarred and burnt visage.

Through smoke clouded, tear-filled eyes, Contrail fought through the pain and let out a cry of malice, deactivating his thrusters and pouncing the orchestrator of his agony, pressing the barrel to her forehead and feathering the trigger.

Looking up at the scene transpiring, he took Abaddon's transmitter and looked over. Suddenly, he realized that the entire area was on fire. Smoke blazing through his eyes... the fire was building.... consuming everything around him. It was hell. The world was opening up and consuming him. Why did the world have to punish him so? This wasn't the first time he felt a hollow feeling...
He wanted to die when his girlfriend revealed he cheated on him.
When he was captured...
The memories began to flood him. He wanted to cry. A 51 year old man, crying. He could see the room he was thrown in, and feel the pain that was inflicted upon him. The cold, glaring eyes of the man "taking care of him", and even through all of this; when he glimpsed at the horror that he was supposed to become, he thought he could see a glimpse of her... the smug bitch...
Holding himself up on the ground, he punched the only stability he had left. The cold soil hurt hi-
Cold...
Wasn't everythin-
it was never on fire in the first place.
Looking up at the area around him, everything was back to normal. He decided to carry out his plan, as he knew that this was the only chance he could take. He knew that Abaddon was going to die to Contingency if he didn't do anything about it. The hopelessly delusional girl was going to kill a hero if he didn't do anything, so he gently threw the communicator down on the ground next to her. Knowing well that she would be too self absorbed in attacking Abaddon to notice, he turned on his transmitter and warped.

Travelling through the radiowaves, he appeared at the other side of the emitter just as Abaddon was diving down for his punch. He then swung a fist himself, directly at the girl's jaw. If she were going to focus on one, the other would hopefully land, and once she was out of the fight, he would help deal with HeartBreaker.

As pain flooded through Saya's senses she felt the long forgotten feeling of pure agony permeate her body. A lifetime of nigh invulnerably had lowered her pain tolerance. So when Myne projected her pain on to the Suiteki Swordswoman, no amount of grit could hide out intensely she felt it. She let out a bloodcurdling cry stumbling backward as she clenched her face. Frantically ripping away her mask and hurling it onto the ground. Some part of her must have known it wasn't real, however, the blinding pain had a way of dispelling her rational thinking.

Her blurred vision began flickering in and out, consciousness fading in and out as each breath became rapid and panicked. The sheer pain forcing her mind into submission. She'd never felt pain as visceral as this, not since the day she was reborn.

Ever block she'd put in place crumbling as fragments of the past began flooding into her mind. Nineteen years ago she had died, and Saya had been born. In a desolated shrine, with nothing but rough and ratty clothes and a chipped blade clutched tightly in hands. She had no idea what torment she'd inflicted upon herself when she took the demon's offer. When she'd placed her lips upon the sakazuki she'd lost everything and had been given the abilities to carve her own path. The blood of the yokai had scorched her throat and burned her soul, it had ignited her body and attempted to burn her away. Yet she'd prevailed, he'd bore the pain, the hollow feeling, she'd persevered through it all.

This day would be no different

Saya steadied herself, the illusion of pain faded as The Yamata no Orochi found her stride once more. However, she had noticeably lost her composure, her face twisted in rage. Searing lasers struck her, as she made no move to deflect or block them. She felt no pain as they passed through her. The added defensive boost of the God Stones causing most of the shots to strike her with little effect, sinking into her skin before halting.

Five shots hit her before she finally ripped free the Suiteki Blade and charged towards Myne. Barly able to contain her bloodlust, she kept her mind focused on one thing. The woman couldn't die, at least not while she was under control by the Moth. Her blade flickering she lept at Myne, using one hand to try and push the woman's head away from the barrel of the masked man's gun. The result would likely end in the bullets being pumped into her instead, however that was a better alternative. With her other hand and the Suiteki Blade, she sought to lash out with a single severing cut, hoping to cleave off her left arm. Separating her from what the God Stones had told her was the source of her powers.

The strikes of the demon-blade had taken off much of the containment foam, and a touch of time took care of the rest. It crumbled around her, blowing away into dust, just more dust on the plains of Nebraska. Everything still hurt, but she opened her eyes... to the barrel of a gun. Heart Breaker looked at it oddly. It wasn't quite right, she didn't think. The angle was all wrong, or the depth, or... something. It was a moment before she connected the oddness to the pain, and realized she couldn't see out her left eye.

She was trying to figure out how to get out of the current situation when a hand connected with her head, fingers sticking to bloodied and half-melted flesh. It would have been a blessing to lose consciousness at that point, but the akuma prevented it. She screamed anyway, half-turned to the side. She didn't see the blade of her erstwhile ally cleave downward, but she felt it strike, parting through defense and flesh and bone.

Separated from its victim, the little black butterfly wormed its way free from the manacle, struggling towards the sky - no doubt seeking further prey, to spread the cycle of corruption anew. With its release, the darkness drew back from Heart Breaker, and the horrifying visions and despair she had inflicted on those present ceased.
In the dust, Myne Anisele pushed herself up, uncertainly. She hurt. Her arm hurt. Her head hurt. Hurt was too weak a word for it, really, but numbness was already taking over. "What...?" she tried, in a voice still raw from screaming. "What happened?" Her left arm wouldn't move, so she brought her right hand across her face, touching the place where it hurt. Her fingers sank in through ruined flesh, touched bone, pulled back sticky and dripping with blood. The eye that could still see widened with shock and horror, and turned upward to those still fighting each other over something she couldn't recall.

"What did you do?"

LaVerne blinked back tears that clouded his vision, watching as the woman with the katana managed to shoulder the brunt of his gunfire and slice directly into his target’s arm. Not knowing who was a friend or a for anymore, the aviator cocked his fist back and went to deliver a punch directed towards the Japanese woman’s face, stumbling backwards from the exertion before falling onto his back and releasing the Luger in his right hand. The gun dropped to the ground as Brock grunted in agony, desperately patting his body to pat out the invisible flames upon his flight suit. Pain, so much pain seared across his flesh and through his body—

—and in a moment, if faded.

Brock’s furious attempt at extinguishing himself stopped mid-pat, hand halting in the air as clarity of vision returned to his conscience. He practically let out a sob of relief as the once-dominating pain faded away to an afterthought, which faded even further to nothingness. LaVerne angled his head to view a horribly mutilated Myne, a black butterfly flapping from the bubble and floating up into the sky before disappearing into the void of night. The pilot furrowed his brow above widened eyes and muttered out an inaudible what, grabbing his Luger from the ground and effortlessly boosting himself to his feet, stepping towards the vile woman before him and leveling the barrel with her head, finger on the trigger.

”What did I do?”

But no. He didn’t pull the trigger. He didn’t do anything, he just stood there with hate in his tear-filled eyes, gritted teeth shown as his lip quivered in the dim twilight. It took every fiber of his being to stop, letting an unforgiving, malicious glare pierce her body as opposed to a hailstorm of lead.

”No,” LaVerne spoke in a single gasp, the finality in his tone punctuating the lowering of the gun.

”You’re not worth the bullets.”

With one fluid motion, he flipped the Luger to grip the barrel and went to slam the broomstick handle into her skull, knocking her out and leaving her unconscious on the ground at the very least, if it landed.

However, malice had its drawbacks— Brock’s hand struck much harder than a simple knock-out, leaving the possibility of him overdoing the powerful punch and breaking her already-damaged skull open.

If she died, she died. It wasn’t his problem, it wouldn’t stain his conscience one fucking bit.

After the suffering he’d been put through? Mercy would be a miracle.

Not having any mental defenses of any kind would be Contingency's downfall in her intended objective, she was determined to not let any harm come to Myne but that would be impossible when the person she's trying to protect is actively violating her mind and senses. The pain she was able to resist for a while but as she missed Abaddon shot after shot it was clear that her mental state was deteriorating rapidly, "dammit" Angela grimaced as her vision was slowly becoming blurred with melted flesh, this hindrance of vision kicked in the same time her temporal bubble expired allowing everyone now with in the radius freedom from any influential constraints. She saw her foe use a grappling hook to reach some power line above then dive towards her but just as she was going to unleash a counter attack of her own she was blindsided by Paschalis Oof all it took was one solid blow to knock the girl who was barely holding on to consciousness.

She collapsed immediately onto the ground with her eyes closed but it was only when she was knocked out did Myne's mental effect finally fade away.

Seeing the people around him fall and rise up, he heard the exchange that came out from both HeartBreaker and Contrail. It sounded as if that the girl was placed under some form of mind control or hypnosis... it was entirely possible that she didn’t want to commit any of the atrocities that she had done. It was horrifying... and Contrail was rightfully angry at her. But Paschalis didn’t want any more death on the fields today. Good or bad. It was too much.
“This has gone on long enough. Just look at the scene behind you all.” He points to the carnage of the trucks. “Look at what you did to yourself and to those around you. There were innocent people in those vehicles and they’re now all dead thanks to you.” Looking over to Contrail, he frowned. “The pain is all gone. Just be glad to know that it’s all over, and it’s not truly her fault.” He then wandered over and picked up Contingency, hailing her onto his back. Turning to Saya, he cocked his head. “Care to explain what happened?”

Abaddon, scowling, rounded on Paschalis. "Shut up." Between mental exhaustion, and a natural inclination towards not suffering fools, he was done being polite. "Put the girl down. She tried to kill federal agents, she's going to prison. You try to take her elsewhere, I'll happily throw you in the adjoining cell. And as for her--" He gestured at Myne. "She killed nearly a hundred people, including children, before today. There's a reason she was in a prisoner transport, dumbfuck. Don't try to cast her as innocent. He'd be well within his rights to kill her, after what he went through."

The Black Phantom brushed past the 'hero,' and towards Saya. His men, including the survivors of the other team, formed on him. From what he could hear over the comms, one of them had called in an Icarus aerial transport. Like we should have done in the first place. Bloody and bruised, his head still aching from the effort of resisting the psychic assault, he narrowed his eyes.

"And you. From what I hear, you killed four of my people, before deciding to switch sides. Make no mistake, there's no way you're walking out of this. You have two options. Either you come quietly." He assumed a combat stance, ready to leap back into the fray. "Or I break every bone in your body."
A myth where ultimate evil turns its gaze on humanity and humanity gazes right back and says "Gotcha."

While Saya might have saved Myne from the shots of the Aerial Ace's gun, the retaliatory strike she received in return was one she had no way of avoiding. Several bullets entered her skull, the odd few ricocheting off her now enhanced skull. However, her tireless form didn't cease, if not for the multiple holes now opened in her head one might not notice the difference. The man's final punch, however, knocked her back, sending her to the ground before she fluidly rolled back to a crouched position. Examining the results of that chaotic fraction of a second.

The first thing she noticed, however, was the success of her disarming attack. Confirmed by the lack of darkness emanating from Myne, leaving behind only a small wisp the fled into the night. She almost moved to follow it, to track it down and destroy it for good. However, from the looks of those who were converging around her, it didn't appear she'd be given that opportunity. So instead she shook the blood off her blade through the process of chiburi before she placed it back in her sheath. Standing back up before finally looking at those who had involved themselves in the fight.

The golden masked aviator was taking care of Myne, in a particularly brutal fashion. However, with the Akuma disposed of her ties to Myne were now cut, she no longer had an obligation to ensure her safety. She wasn't quite sure how the God Stone would react to the apathy, perhaps they'd expected more from their champion, she'd warned them not to. Besides with the threat neutralized she was unsure whether they'd stick around.

As the... being who brought down the time-warper asked her if she'd shine additional light on the situation Saya merely shook her head accompanied by a brief and unexpressive, "No." She was in no mood to explain the rationale behind her actions, and she could find no reason too. She'd observed a problem and solved it, in her own way. No words could convince those who disagreed with her, and this was hardly the place for philosophical waxing.

Instead, as the Black Phantom delivered his ultimatum she crossed her arms. She felt... drained, a sensation she'd long thought herself rid off. Invulnerability had made her complacent, and now she was paying the price.

"I no longer have a reason to continue this fight, yet I will defend myself. I don't doubt the validity of your threat. However, I assure you that I will bring down far more than four of your men before I fall."

Great energy like a radiant star built up in Saya as the Akuma slipped free of it's bonds. The God's Eye Stones prepared to confront and cleanse the evil energy...and Saya did nothing to stop it's escape. The energy vanished with an audible snap and pop and just like that, the stones vanished from her ears. If the stones felt anything at her behavior, it was not shared with her before they departed.

Indeed, they were disappointed, not in her, but in themselves. Upon reflection they came to realize they had not made the consequences clear enough and had, in their desperation to preserve the life of the Akuma victim, made it seem as if only the victim's death would lead to direct consequences....there for the stones blamed themselves for what would come next as much as anyone else. Next time, they resolved, they would be clear as crystal.

In his lair Stygian Moth stood still in the light cast by his arcane window. Victory had transformed suddenly into defeat...but crushing despair was fleeting...for the bearer of the God's Eye allowed the Akuma to flee. A slow smile spread across his think lips."The broken heart has been defeated and her song is silence...but you have allowed my beautiful Akuma to escape and soon it shall gather a whole choir of despair...and together we will sing the anthem of my victory!" He clenched his fist and lowered his head in dramatic pose. "The Heart Breaker has broken my heart, but the children of despair will soon break yours. Go forth my Akuma and twist the souls of the anguished. Alight on the shattered remnants of those who have lost family and friends to heroic conflict... we're doing a sequal."

His laughter started low and slow, then spread in tempo and strength like a California fire until it echoed through the room. The window irised shut and somewhere out in the darkness, away from prying eyes, the little butterfly began to multiply, producing dozens of copies of itself. Each copy floated off into the sky in search of places. Places like Washington D.C. New York, Detroit... Sylvania...the list went on...and on. Despair spread like a plague and where there had been one Heart Breaker, there would soon be an army of them, waiting in silence, their powers inactive until...

Until they had a general.
