Pilot

Image
Full Name:
Aarne Halla

Age:
27

Gender:
Male

Race:
Human

Homeworld:
Eura, a small mining colony at the far edges of human reach. Originally a part of the Independent Planets of Multia, Eura is now under Republian control. It is a cold, mountainous planet, on which the snow falls all year round.

Appearance:
6'1", 185lbs
Aarne is a man of average height and sturdy build, with broad shoulders and a deep chest, and a complexion as white as the frozen landscapes of his homeworld. His skin is pale as snow, tinged with ruddy red on his cheeks and around his slightly bulbous nose, with matching straw blond hair. Aarne's eyes are icy blue, and downturned at the outside edges, giving him a faintly crestfallen appearance.

Weapons:
The mercenary carries on his person a Beretta 92 pistol, mostly for protection. He is not particularly proficient with or interested in firearms, though it is not unknown for him to visit the shooting range from time to time.

Affiliation:
  • Republlia, where Aarne has a status of permanent residency.
  • Titan Defence Services, a private military company operating from and within Republia. Aarne makes a living taking on short-term contracts from Titan.
Skills:
For as long as he can remember, Aarne has been exposed to mecha. With a lifetime's experience in operating and maintaining analogue AMP systems, Aarne is both a handy mechanic and masterful pilot. It is this, combined with a hardy resolve, tactical mind, and a little luck, that have led to a successful career as a gun for hire. During his short time with the Multian Ground Forces, Aarne boxed and wrestled with his battalion's respective clubs, though he was not exceptional in either sport.

Personality:
Aarne is a person of friendly disposition, and in good company is quick to laugh and smile. Although he tries not to take life too seriously, there is a jaded tiredness in his demeanour that at first meeting can make him seem apathetic and uninterested. On account of his experiences on Eura, Aarne expresses a hatred of aliens, and harbours deep contempt for cowards, criminals and underachievers. Aarne believes that a steadfast, unified effort from all humans is the only way to achieve security in this hostile galaxy, and views those that do not do their part as no better than traitors.

Biography:
Upon their invention 24 years ago, AMPs proliferated throughout every aspect of society, transforming both militaries and civilian industry alike. Miners, particularly those with access to cheap, mass produced Soviet mecha, made extensive use of AMPs, the availability of which enabled the settling of mining colonies far into deep space. Among those pioneers seeking fortunes on distant stars were Aarne's family, one of the first to expand the grasp of Multia and settle a small, snowy planet that would come to be known as Eura. Since young childhood, Aarne was highly engaged in family affairs, spending long hours in the workshop where his father would maintain his mech. Aged fifteen, Aarne became himself an AMP operator, working alongside his father for the state mining firm. The work grew boring, however, and he yearned for excitement, resolving to enlist in the army as soon as he was able.

Following his 18th birthday, Aarne joined the Multian Ground Forces, and on account of his previous experience was assigned to the 5th Motor Rifle Division to pilot AMPs. Despite going in with an eager attitude, basic training proved to be both unpleasant and, in his eyes, useless, almost making him regret his decision to sign up. The piloting training that followed, however, would more than make up for the initial disappointment. Aarne had found his calling piloting military mecha: a world apart from disarmed mining robots, they were fast, extremely responsive, and a downright thrill to drive. He passed the course with flying colours, became stationed with his region's garrison, and returned proudly home with an impressive salary.

Just one year into Aarne's professional service, Eura came under vicious attack by neighbouring aliens. Devastated by a massive initial strike, the Ground Forces struggled desperately to survive. The alien incursion was not limited to Eura, and pushed deep into Multian space, quickly overwhelming the small nation. Somehow able to resist the invasion, Eura was laid to siege by way of heavy orbital bombartment, obliterating surface infrastructure and forcing the population to retreat into its many mines. The aliens launched a number of minor offensives during this time, which the army was miraculously able to repel, resupplying with equipment manufactured in improvised workshops and eating whatever food they could grow underground. The siege stretched on for six months, and it looked as though the fighting would never end. Aarne had resigned himself to a life of misery.

When relief eventually arrived, it was from Republia. Motivated primarily by the opportunity to seize control of valuable mineral resources, Republia mounted an offensive to reclaim the lost colonies. Victory came swiftly, and the Republian military had assumed total control of the planet within weeks. Aarne and his family were granted full residency by the Republian government, and in addition a small amount of financial aid, inspiring in him a grateful patriotism towards the nation.

Aarne's life had been destroyed. His home devastated, and many of those he had known killed in the fighting, there was nothing left for him on Eura. Aarne relocated with his family to the safety of the inner ring of Republian space, hopeful to start anew. His conscience would not allow him, however, to seek civilian work; life had taught him that peace could only be maintained through vigilance and military might, for which AMP pilots were required more than anything. The Republian Army was not a good fit: their usage of highly computerised AMPs, with digital control systems, required a completely different set of skills to his own. As a veteran of a conflict as intense as the war for Eura, it was easy for him to find work with one of Republia's many private military companies, within which he could use equipment of his choice. Aarne has worked with Titan Defence Services as a mercenary for several years now, and recently attended an interview - with one Serah Ohara - for a particularly well paid special operations assignment.

Misc:
Aarne takes an interest in Earth history, and particularly in ancient folklore and mythology.

Character Theme:
Giriu Dvasios - Tureja Liepa

A.M.P
Image Mech Name:
Odin, after the Norse deity.

Mech Specialty:
Odin is a main battle mech, performing the role of maneuverable armour-protected direct fire that makes up the bulwark of most armies in the Asterian Galaxy. Although a highly capable AMP in its own right, it lacks the sheer strength and toughness of the more colossal machines, as well as being inferior in offensive capability to those mecha with elite computer systems, making it best suited to a support role.

Appearance:
Aarne's mech is a large but sleek machine, closely humanoid in shape. Its armour and weapons are both painted in their original army green, having been purchased primarily from the Republian military.

Weapons:
Odin is equipped with a railgun cannon, capable of switching to automatic bullet fire and acting as a light machine gun; two shielded thrusters, capable of acting independently as additional shielding for any part of the mech's body; a twin laser-guided rocket system armed with both anti-air and anti-armour missiles; and a pulse rifle, designed to release electromagnetic pulse attacks that disable the computerised control and targeting systems most mecha so heavily rely on.

Special Attributes:
The main body and primary framework of Odin is that of the Warrior, a now dated Soviet build which marked the last in its series of mass produced, analogue controlled mecha. An almost completely analogue mech, it relies on direct signals between cockpit controls and the AMP's driving mechanisms. Over the past decade, analogue mecha have been almost totally phased out, replaced by computerised systems which are easier to learn to pilot, far more forgiving of pilot errors, and generally more accurate with their weapons. To their advantage, analogue mecha are hardy and robust, capable of operating effectively in almost any conditions, and much simpler to repair and maintain. Soviet equipment of this kind is strewn all over the galaxy, making finding replacement parts cheap and easy. In order to make up for his platform's age, Aarne has retrofitted the Warrior with the latest Republian weaponry.

Re: Legacy: Chapter One

Full Name: Revelation Namoor

Age: 25

Gender: Female

Race: Half human, half Zetarian (“Father is the human and Mother is the Zetarian, in case you were wondering.”)

Homeworld: Zetari (Zuh-tar-ee)

Appearance: Revelation stacks up to a rather short 5’1” with a slight build and lean musculature, weighing in at approximately 115 lbs. While she does not appear overtly strong, she has been trained to use her body weight and that of her opponents to her advantage. At first glance, she has the pale skin of a human, but upon further inspection you would see it has a distinct silver, almost metallic, glint to it. Her eyes, while shaped like a human’s, are completely black—devoid of any pupil, sclera, or iris. Her ears are slightly elongated and pointed. She has waves of pitch black hair that fall to her mid-back when left unattended, but it’s usually pinned up in an intricate, braided design.

She is almost never seen out of her mech interface suit, which is a combination of a sleek black matte material and soft red embedded lights. The helmet can completely retract into the collar of the suit, but it can also just retract the visor, leaving only Revelation’s face visible. There is a neural interface in the suit’s helmet that allows Revelation to control her mech from outside the cockpit.

Weapons: a star pistol (these look similar to the typical handgun, but shoot concentrated bursts of heat energy; can be set to two different modes—incapacitate and kill), a M&P15-22 long rifle, an assortment of small combat knives hidden about her person

Affiliation: “Nobody but myself…except Akari’s squad now, I guess…”

Skills: Revelation is trained in both firearms and physical combat, but excels in hand-to-hand. She is exceptionally quick, agile, and flexible. Throughout her time as mercenary, she has also become very adept at…let’s put it this way: getting into places she isn’t necessarily supposed to be in. While she is a respectable fighter, she is known and hired for her impeccable stealth, agility, and speed.

Personality: Being a mercenary can be hard on someone’s soul, but Revelation never lost her awe for the universe. Ever since she was a little girl she’d wanted to explore the universe and learn anything and everything the stars, planets, and other creatures had to teach her. Do not misunderstand this as naivete though. Revelation will go to pretty much any length to accomplish a job. Breaking and entering? Of course. Torture? Been there, done that. Beating someone to death with her bare hands? Yeah, okay. Revelation isn’t very good with people; they make her nervous, so she may come off as shy (mainly because she is). However, once someone can get past her hard outer shell, she has no trouble joking and having fun. It’s just that, more often than not, people don’t really want to be your friend. They just want something from you. Generally, she tries to get along with others, but isn’t very good at hiding her irritation, which may cause tension among a group. Once she grows close to someone, though, her loyalty is undying.

Biography: Revelation was born to a native Zetarian and a human explorer who, during his deep space exploration, happened upon the distant planet of Zetari and fell madly in love with none other than the daughter of the ambassador of foreign affairs. How fitting. Revelation grew up listening to her father’s fantastical stories about the planets, moons, and stars he’d visited and the beings he’d met throughout his journeys.

As a child, Revelation knew very little about conflict. Zetari had few neighboring inhabited planets, all of which lived in relative peace with one another. However, the thin façade of peace soon came crashing down around her when Zetari was viciously attacked by the Malum. None only did the they murder an untold number of Zetarians, but upon finishing their land assault, they planted and detonated a bomb deep in the planet’s core, destroying it from the inside out. Revelation managed to become the last remaining Zetarian by crawling into an unwatched cargo port in one of the Malum ships in attempt to hide. By the time she was discovered, she was far from her home. Or rather, the remnants of what used to be her home.

Instead of killing her, however, the Malum decided to train her as a soldier of their own. As a child—barely more than a toddler—Revelation had no other option than to comply. But in the back of her mind, a desire for revenge began to grow. When Revelation was 13, she decided it was her time to leave and killed the entire crew of the Malum ship she’d been assigned to. It did little sate her feeling of injustice; these people had murdered every last one of her kind—one ship of dead Malum wasn’t enough. But she was smart enough to know that you can’t embark on mission hellbent on revenge with nothing but the weapons on your back. She needed a way to sustain herself and purchase a wide range of supplies. Oh, and maintain and customize the mech she’d commandeered from a black market trading post.

As the years passed, Revelation created a reputation for herself as a mercenary. She accepted pretty much any job as long as the client was willing to pay a substantial sum. When she wasn’t hopping planet to planet, killing or stealing or doing whatever her current job entailed, she enjoyed cruising through the galaxies, compiling information on everything she saw. She knew the names of thousands of species, hundreds of planets, and fluently spoke several languages (English included, of course).

Knowing English came in handy during a particular job on the desert planet of Kru. She’d just collected payment for a job infiltrating an arms dealer’s warehouse (and collecting a few choice pieces for her client) and was trudging back through the sand dunes to the hiding place of her mech when an explosion to the east caught her attention. Normally, she’d shrug it off without a second thought, but a gut feeling made Revelation hesitate. Spurred on by the tugging of her conscience, she followed the explosions and sounds of screeching metal until she came upon a mech fight scene that’d put even the best action movie to shame.

The battle appeared to be tipping in favor of a ridiculously enormous mech, decked out in an equally ridiculous amount of weaponry. The other mech—a slightly smaller black mech—was having a tough time keeping their feet under them. As Revelation looked the bigger mech over, her breath caught in her throat. It was Malum. It was like some omnipotent being had fated her being on this exact planet at this exact time. She hadn’t killed any Malum in a while and—hey, she could help out that black mech at the same time. A little murder, a little act of kindness. Perfect.

Revelation raced down the sand dunes, activating her helmet as she went. The black mech must’ve spotted her because she heard a male’s voice calling out over the speaker system installed in most mechs (he was yelling at her to stay away, she was going to get herself killed, blah blah blah). She wished she could’ve seen both the pilots’ faces when Flashpoint exploded out of nowhere, its spear-headed polearm weapon glinting in the face of the unrelenting sun. Operating her mech from the ground, Revelation had Flashpoint hack off one of the Malum mech’s arms before sheathing the hand-to-hand weapons and bringing out the nova cannons that manifested from both its arms. Working in tandem with the black mech and its pilot, Revelation and the mysterious male pilot reduced the Malum mech to a smoldering pile of rubble. And for good measure, Revelation dragged the Malum pilot out of the cockpit so she could see their face as she blew their face apart with her star pistol.

While most normal people would’ve been horrified at Revelation’s actions, the black mech pilot seemed…impressed. Or at least intrigued. They spent the next couple of hours at the nearest bar, throwing back whatever liquid was set in front of them and making conversation. Neither of them were very forthcoming. Both of them spoke in vague terminology so that, by the end of it, the only thing Revelation was sure of was his name: James Akari. He’d said he worked for Republia Army, but a lot of people claimed such positions.

Despite the miniscule amount of information Revelation revealed to James, a little asking around the right sketchy parts of the galaxies and a resourceful person would come across her name and means of contact. So now here she was, meeting up with some sergeant from the AMP Regiment (again, what he claimed to be—the truth was yet to be seen), because her curiosity just wouldn’t let her pass up the mysterious opportunity.

Misc: Revelation loves being a mercenary. Her reputation as a cutthroat well precedes her so she does her best to keep her softer side a secret. She won’t take a job that involves killing or harming young children. They’ve done nothing wrong and shouldn’t have to suffer for the sins of those that came before them. And, despite her anxiety surrounding interaction with others, her biggest fear is ending up alone forever. How long can someone survive living only for themselves?

On a lighter note, she loves sweets and somehow always has some sweet treat on her person somewhere.

Character Themes: Victorious by Panic! At the Disco, Mars by Sleeping at Last

Mech Name: Flashpoint

Mech Specialty: speed, agility, support

Appearance: Flashpoint has a predominantly red color scheme with some darker accents.

Weapons: The circular indention in the mech’s sternum can be used to fire a beam or concentrated blast of heat energy. Both forearms can transform into cannon-like weapons that fire similar heat energy ammunition. The claws on the mech’s hands (these retract in cannon mode) are incredibly sharp and usually used for a sort of slashing attack. (Not in picture) Poles with talon-like spearheads are stored on the inside of the forearms and can be released to be used in hand-to-hand combat. The poles can be put together to form a longer, singular weapon with the spearheads at both ends.

Special Attributes: Flashpoint was designed so that it can absorb, store, and power itself and its weapons using solar energy. This makes it a formidable foe when near a star. This isn’t to say that it is useless elsewhere, however. Flashpoint can store this energy indefinitely. It is also capable of transferring this stored solar energy to another piece of technology, making it a rather helpful support mech. Revelation can also pilot it while out of the cockpit.

Flashpoint’s sleeker design assists in its speed and agility. While it may not out-weapon the bulkier, more souped-up mechs, it can stand its ground by out-maneuvering them.

**Also, I’ve written some information about Zetari, the Zetarians, and the Malum. This way, if you want your character to have some background knowledge on them, you can. If you want your character to know more than what I've already made up, feel free to message me and I'll create an answer for whatever you want your character to know.
