IT STARTED WITH A DISCOVERY...

In the year 2148, explorers on Mars discovered the remains of an ancient space faring civilization. In the decades that followed, these mysterious artifacts revealed startling new technologies, enabling travel to the furthest stars. The basis for this incredible technology was a force that controlled the very fabric of space and time.

They called it the greatest discovery in human history.

The civilizations of the galaxy call it...
MASS EFFECT.

FOLLOWED BY AN INVASION...

Commander Shepard was assinged to a mission to test a new ship for the Systems Alliance when she first learned of the Spectre Saren Arterius. With the discovery of the actions taken by the rogue Spectre, Shepard became the first human Spectre enforced by the Citadel Council. Shepard’s first mission for the Council was to stop the rogue Saren from leading an army of Geth to conquer the galaxy. During pursuit of Saren, Shepard learned of a far greater threat in the form of the Reapers. Saren had been mentally enslaved by the Reaper Sovereign, a vanguard sent into Citadel Space to initiate the purge of all advanced sentient life in the galaxy, a cycle repeated by the Reapers every 50,000 years. The Citadel was taken over by the Geth and Spectre and was only stopped by the support of the Systems Alliance force and Shepard.

Two years after the events of Sovereign's attack. Human colonies were attacked, their colonists disappeared without a trace. Commander Shepard, was forced into an uneasy alliance with the pro-human paramilitary organization, Cerberus, in an effort to discover the cause. Evidence later emerged pointing to the Collectors, an advanced, enigmatic race of insect-like humanoids that later revealed as the ancient race of Prothean who have been altered and manipulated by the Reapers. Shepard set out on a "suicide mission" to stop the Collectors, accompanied by a hand-picked team of soldiers, assassins, mercenaries, and specialists.

AND THEN A WAR...

After fending off the Collectors, The Reapers returned in force, and begun their purge of the galaxy, attacking the human home world of Earth. During this attack Commander Shepard was on Earth and forced to flee. After fleeing Earth Commander Shepard had to race against time to rally the advanced races of the galaxy to make one final stand, not only to save Earth, but also to break a cycle that has continued for millions of years. Shepard succeeded in defeating the Reapers sacrificing herself to gain control of them and end the cycle once and for all. Using the Reapers to rebuild the Mass Effect relays Shepard then promised to safeguard the galaxy from external threats and vanished back into dark space with the entire Reaper fleet.

OUR STORY BEGINS HERE:

The year is now 2236, fifty years have passed since the Reaper War but this is not quite the idyllic future envisioned by many during the defeat of the reapers. The Batarian Hegemony never recovered from the damage suffered from the initial invasion by the reapers, and is still simply a mass of small groups warring for control of what was once Hegemony Space. A Turrian separatist group, Facinus, has gathered significant political and financial backing and has begun a civil war with the Turian Hierarchy. Striking against both civilian and military targets Turian space is now considered an extremely dangerous place to be. Rumors of sightings of an unknown alien race on the edge of Asari space are wide spread but unconfirmed so far. And the Pro-human group known as Cerberus has been reborn, under new leadership and following their original "Humans First" doctrine they have dubbed themselves Phoenix and are suspected for numerous terrorist attacks against nonhuman holdings across the galaxy, generating significant Anti-human sentiments in many.

2186 - The Reaper Invasion is ended, after many deaths and a galaxy united. The Reaper's are controlled due to Commander Shepards sacrifice, and used to reuibuild the Mass Relays. The Reapers are referred to as Shepard Reapers.

2187 - The Relays are completely rebuilt however the COM buoy chains that connected the galaxy are severed in many places and communication is unreliable and scattered. The Shepard Reapers continue to aid in rebuilding.

2188-89 - The reconstruction of the most basic needs of the galaxy are now complete. FTL COMs to all but the most remote locations, Mass Relays and most of the fuel depots that were destroyed by the reapers are operational. The Shepard Reapers move the Citadel back to the Serpent Nebula.

2190 - The Shepards as they have come to be known, spend the better part of the year scouring the galaxy for any remains of Reaper forces. Collecting husks and collectors and reintegrating them into the fleet. At the end of the year the Shepards broadcast a message that they are now leaving the galaxy, to safeguard from external threats but that they will be watching. They return to dark space.

2191 - With Communications and supply lines rebuilt inter-species political debates are started. It is determined that a new council is required, as they were killed in 2186 when the reapers took the Citadel to earth. After long debates new council members for the original three races and a new human councilor are selected.

2192 - The "mostly" normal operations of the council have resumed. At the Human councilor's suggestion, and seconded by the Turian and Asari councilors, fought only by the Salarians, the Krogan are given the status of a full council race. They chose Urdnot Bakara their council representative.

2193 - The Geth and Quarians are given embassies on the citadel. Assassination attempt of Salarian councilor thwarted by Krogan Specter via application of blunt-force trauma. The Krogan find new Salarian support in political matters.

2194 - The remaining Cerberus cells are found and removed with the assistance of undercover Alliance operatives and Councilor Spectres. The pro-human group is destroyed.

2196 - With the assistance of STG Members and the aide of the krogan, the Shroud facility on Tuchanka is restored and improved, a decade later from project beginning. Much to the Salarian Councilor's long standing disagreement.

2197 - With Council aide as well as support, the Hanar Illuminated Primacy is able to receive the backing they need. A cure for kepral's syndrome is estimated to be complete within a decade.

2199 - With most of the council races basic needs taken care of, and the threat of Cerberus cells is gone, the relief effort for the terminus systems are started in earnest. It is determined that the batarian government is all but gone, and the 10+ years since the reaper attack, Batarians have splintered into many small warring groups. Many relief ships are attacked by the warring groups. The council terminates all aid for the Batarians.

2205 - A cure for Kepral's Syndrome is achieved, and many lives are saved thanks to galactic support and the medical expertise of the Hanar society.

2206 - A memorial is built in recognition of Cerberus' defeat, to remind the Galaxy that focusing on themselves can twist ambitions.

2211 - On the 25th Anniversary of the Shepards changing and helping the Galaxy, many planets celebrate, and a monument is under way to recognize the suffering of those that died during the Invasion. Many planets bid for the right of hosting the monument, but the Council decided that Earth, London, the sight of the Crucible use, will be the location.

2212 - After searching for some time, the Rachni is discovered and pulled into Council space. Their planet is officially given to them, much to Krogan protesting.

2213 - A year later, the Asari build relations with the Rachni, some acting in place as Rachni representatives.

2214 - Two years after beginning political relations, the Rachni agree to have a ambassador, and Krogan disagreements are waylaid.

2217 - The Geth and Quarrians begin a AI construction project for the citadel, creating and teaching them to integrate well with organics. The Counsel begins installing them on high priority ships. Advanced AI's quickly become their major export, second only to advanced Geth technology.

2218 - Rumors that a new powerful Pro-human group has been stirring. Quarians and Geth have colonized multiple worlds in the Perseus Veil and the Quarrian's no longer need exosuits on their home world.

2218 - After 30 years of service the SSV Normandy is docked for the final time, within the Shepard memorial on Earth, London. EDI stays with the Normandy. A second memorial is built by the Systems Alliance, for lost marines during the war in Vancouver a wall with the names of all the lost souls during the invasion. Admiral David Anderson is the named honorary official to which the memorial is built. A new program by the counsel is approved for a new and improved stealth frigates is started.

2219 - Spectre Ashley Williams retires at the age of 61, to live with her family.

2220 - The Leviathans refuse representation on the citadel and all contact is lost with the messengers. Further attempts to communicate with them are halted.

2221 - The Drell submit a petition for a homeworld of their own. With the assistance of Salarian scientists, a terraforming project is begun to make a planet in the Kahje system to match the old world of the Drells.

2230 - The terraforming of the planet is complete and it is renamed Kala, and colonization begins.

2233 - The Turian separatist group Facinus gains significant support from some leaders and politicians in the Hierarchy. These men are deemed traitors but the damage is done. There is much more support for them than ever before. Separatists are estimated to control 20% of the populations hearts and minds. Civil War is officially declared at the end of the year.

2234 - The Raloi return from their self imposed exile and are granted embassy on the citadel. Most of the galaxy is astounded they survived the reaper invasion at all. The system's alliance confirms the existence of Phoenix the Pro-human group modeled after Cerberus.

2235 - The Turian Civil War escalates with Batarian pirate support for Facinus, as well as unknown to most of the galaxy, support from Phoenix, in hopes the Turian groups wipe each other out. The Turians continue to refuse aid from the rest of the counsel.

2236 - Sightings of Unknown ships on the Edge of Asari space cause some alarm but they cannot be confirmed. Official Phoenix attacks on alien civilian and military targets in various places across the galaxy become more frequent and violent. Batarian Slavers and Pirate attacks on merchant vessels and terminus colonies increase.

Down below here in the spoiler you will find a character profile. I gave some examples of what should go in the lines just for ease of use. Basically I want to keep the setting as cannon as possible so for powers and the like I would prefer you draw from the games, rather than make something up unless its particularly well thought out. Hit me with the profiles here, and once approved you can post them in the character thread. Which will exist soon. After we get a couple people we can do some RP :D Also here is a Link to the CS thread so you can see accpeted characters... like the one I made for me X) LINKY

What's the situation on the Quarian-Geth conflict? Would the Quarians have reclaimed Rannoch in this timeline, was there a compromise between them and the Geth, or are they still nomadic, with the Migrant Fleet destroyed?

The setting is treated as if Shepard was a perfect paragon full play-through of all the games and DLC. So the Quarian and Geth are united, the geth helping the Quarians rebuild. Joint Geth and Quarians have been given embassies on the citadel and now are building AI (More EDI than Geth) and other robotics as their major export. And clearly due to Legions sacrifice, Geth programs are fully autonomous AIs.

Would it make sense for the N7 branch of the System Alliance's military to continue? I mean, it'd make sense since Shephard was an N7 and the galaxy's greatest hero. If so, I'm going to make a human N7 officer.

Well all the races maintian there own armed forces so I would think so. I relaized I didnt say much about where I see the RP going. Was thinking a new task force, under a specter or something or an army of C-Sec, tasked with hunting down these new galactic threats and the like.

I'd think C-Sec would be too local, and it would make sense for the council to assign a Task-Force to be led by a Spectre with the authority from the Citadel Council. If I were to make an N7 character, I'd think that he'd be the Spectre's Second-in-Command, unless you wanted that position for someone else.
