Mathias peered at her quietly and nodded a little bit, tilting his head thoughtfully. It was strangely hard to believe she didn't have that many friends. Despite her odd nature, she seemed kind and caring and surely those were the qualities people looked for in others these days. Especially in a city where it was hard to trust anyone. He didn't say anything of it though, not wishing to bring up any bad memories or thoughts. Not that he had much to say on the matter being he didn't have the greatest friend reputation. Of course, he blamed that entirely on himself and his particularly angry and untrusting nature. He nodded again and smiled in just the faintest, a glimmer of amusement but it vanished as soon as it had appeared. She closed the door and he let out a soft sigh, collapsing onto the floor. He huffed in irritation, not sure what he wanted to do. Sleeping in his own clothes seemed rather tempting as he was most comfortable in them. However, clean clothes seemed desirable as well. Mathias laid on the floor for a moment, draping one of his arms across his eyes.

"I'm just a confusing person...although being male may be part of it." he replied with a soft grin, glancing at her briefly before looking away. As much as he wanted to give her his full attention it was far too risky to do so. "Hmm well, it's true isn't it? I know so little about you..." he pointed out but not in an accusing way. A simple observation with curiosity in his tone. He desired to know more about her, to get to truly know her beyond what he could see. Yet both of them seemed wary about opening up too much despite the trust they seemed to have between them. A strand duo indeed... he thought. He suddenly stiffed, hearing the shuffle of nearby feet and in a blur he moved in front of Ellie, holding a single finger up to his lips to signal for silence. He essentially shielded her from view as a small trio of Nightwalkers walked by, only one bothered to glance their way. Kai didn't seem too concerned, an almost annoyed look crossing his eyes rather than worry. "Nightwalkers...such a bother..." he muttered, stifling a small chuckle.

As much as she would like to take her time and just stand under the hot water to ease her aches and pains she didnt feel comfortable enough to do that. If she took too long it was possible he would try to escape and the simple fact he was here put her slightly on edge. Not in a bad way of course, but she wasn't used to be alone with a guy before. Or anybody really. The only people she was used to being around for a long period of time was her family, she was sheltered as a child and so she wasn't so knowledgeable on how to deal with people even though she seemed fine at it. Yet she didn't have as much of an issue with anyone aside from Mathias so maybe that's what helped her talk to them and it was just him she struggled with. He wasn't exactly what anyone would call normal and her coming to know him was definitely not normal. How did one talk to someone who has been in their dreams for years? Adalei knew everything about him and it was hard to act like she knew nothing at all. She sighed softly and shook her head, trying to focus on finishing up her shower rather than her confusing thoughts.

Ellie was about to reply to all of his statements when he suddenly jumped in front of her, holding a finger up to his lips. Out here at this time of day she didn't need to be told twice, gently pursing her lips as she hid against his back and tried to make herself look as small as possible. That wasn't hard since she was small in comparison to Kai, not by much but his body could wrap comfortably around her own. She only knew that because he had been holding her while they slept, a thought that still made her turn slightly pink but this wasn't the time to be losing focus. Carefully she peered over his left shoulder when he muttered something about Nightwalkers although still she didn't say anything in case they hadn't left the vicinity yet. The skin on the back of her neck prickled, but she didn't want to read into it too much. Her nerves were already shot from seeing the damage Kai had done to Miles so this was just a lingering feeling, and she did have reason to be nervous out here. She focused on her breathing, keeping herself as calm as possible as she awaited his verdict...and taking the time to enjoy his warmth a bit. It may not be the best time, but he just had that affect on her.

Mathias eventually grew comfortable enough to where he curled up against the wall and closed his eyes. He listened quietly to the soft hum of the running water, the faint voices from out in the city, the overall silence of the hotel. At this point getting dressed was too much work, he didn't expect to be around long. By morning he would take his leave and perhaps then he would take a shower and put on some clean clothes. It would be nice to freshen up a bit, but for the time being he'd content himself with sleeping on the floor. However, he wasn't quite asleep yet. Odds were, he wouldn't fall asleep until she was going to sleep. It wasn't that he thought she'd suddenly attack him, it was the simple feeling of being almost...embarrassed for whatever reason. In the end he was truly just exhausted and wanted nothing more than to sleep away all this grogginess and achiness.

Kai eyed the Nightwalkers with a silent regard, the one met his eyes and they seemed to share a silent conversation. For the one Nightwalker dipped her head a little and continued on her way. There was a long stretch of silence before Kai determined it was safe to move about again, letting out a soft breath he hadn't realized he was holding. Vampires didn't need to breath but that didn't mean they couldn't still take in air and out of nerves hold that air in. He looked at Ellie for a moment as if making sure she was alright but he didn't say anything about it. He knew he worried too much, but what made it strange was that concern was stretched out to only her. He gently took her hand again "We're almost out of the city..." he muttered softly, though he was certain she knew that. Just another batch of buildings and then they'd be free from the dangerous confines of the city. Although, even out of the city there was still a small risk of Nightwalkers. Kai smiled a little bit "What a strange duo we've become huh?" he muttered thoughtfully, glancing at her again.

After a few minutes more Adalei turned off the water and stepped out, finding it hard to dry off but she managed. It was easier than her hair was going to be when she got to it, she honestly had no idea how she was going to towel it with only one hand. She'd worry about it when she got to that point though, setting the towel aside to get dressed which was a process in itself. Her shorts were fine, it was everything else a girl wore and her night shirt that were an issue. Somehow, after what felt like forever and a day, she got that done too, feeling like she just went through an full workout routine without a single break. Her muscles sort of ached from all the bending and twisting she had been doing just now, but she was just glad to have it done. She took a small breath and picked up the towel, attempting to dry her hair again as she left the bathroom though it didn't seem to be going over too well. Yet she was a trooper, she wasn't one too easily give up, clearly, so she kept trying as she sat on the bed, looking at Mathias who was laying on the floor. "Um, comfortable?"

Ellie watched the exchange, relaxing a little when they left and Kai looked at her. He seemed okay to her, maybe just a little annoyed. What exactly happened she wasn't sure, but she wouldn't ask either. If he wanted her to know he'd tell her, but that didn't mean she wouldn't say other things. After all she was trying to keep the moment light-hearted amd things felt a little tense again. "Old girlfriend of yours Kai? You two were staring at each other so intensely." She commented as he began walking again, pulling her along. Maybe it was a little bit mean to tease him like this, but it wasn't like she did so that often. Since she didn't know all that much about him she had very little to tease him with. They would get there slowly, she was patient and they had all the time in the world. Literally. "Is it a bad thing to be so strange? I've stood out all my life...not always by choice..." she muttered quietly. As a human she stood out and as a vampire she stood out, mostly for bad reasons but there were a few good reasons she supposed. If she hadn't then Kai probably would've never noticed her and who knows where he would be now if he hadn't...

Mathias opened his eyes to peer over at her, having almost not heard her enter the room at all. "Yep..." he replied quietly and closed his eyes again. Sleeping on the floor was no struggle for him certainly, although perhaps a bit chilly. "I wanted to thank you...for allowing me to stay for the night." he added quietly though his eyes remained closed. Mathias rolled over onto his stomach, resting his head against his arms. With his luck he would've crossed paths with a group of Nightwalkers and ultimately it would've been a bad ending for him. He frowned a little before shrugging the thought aside. He may not care about much these days, but he didn't have a death wish. Life just seemed to be a bit meaningless at this point in his life, though try as he may, he couldn't exactly 'find his purpose' so to speak.

Kai relaxed again once they were moving and fortunately he didn't sense anyone else near by. Perhaps they would have a clear shot to the house from here. A small grin trickled across his lips "Ah, no...Nightwalkers dating is super risky not to mention unlikely." he glanced at Ellie and chuckled. "We've just crossed paths before, hung out for a bit before she joined her new little group." he shrugged. He smiled and watched her for a moment "Not a bad thing I suppose..." he tilted his head questioningly. "Really?" he asked, although he didn't want to pry too much. Of course Ellie stood out to him though even now he couldn't quite explain how or why. He figured that she would tell him only what she wanted him to know in time, although perhaps a question or two here wouldn't hurt. It's how people got to know one another right? He chuckled and looked away, taking a deep breath as they finally broke through the last batch of buildings, escaping the city.

Adalei tilted her head and lowered her towel, figuring this meant he decided against a shower and clean clothes. It wasn't like she could, or would, force him to do anything. If he chose to sleep like that then that was his choice, but it seemed cold down there and there was something she could do about that. She got back up and hung her towel om the back of the desk chair, moving towards the closet near him and getting down one of the extra blankets from the top shelf. Yet another hard task but she wasn't going to let a injury stop her from doing what she wanted when she wanted. He was supposed to being laying on another of these, she had offered to lay some down for him, but it wasn't likely to happen now that he was laying down. The most she could do was cover him and that's what she did, with some struggles but she managed to get him covered up, leaning down to check and make sure before she got up and turned off the light before returning to the bed. "Ah, so the jerk does know how to use of kindness. Shocking." She smiled as she laid down and pulled the blanket over herself, staring up through the darkness to the ceiling. "No need to thank me..."

Ellie studied him as he spoke, the way he chuckled at her comment and the pause in his reply. "...did you just indirectly admit you would've dated her if those factors weren't an issue?" She asked, unsure why she felt bothered by this question. He was allowed to do whatever he wanted, it was his life, and that had been in the past before they met so why? As tempted as she was to pull her hand from his she forced herself to stay put, knowing that if she did that would be seen as odd. Especially after all that. Besides, Ellie didn't do jealousy...although she's never felt this way before so what did she really know? "I mean...you should be able to pursue whoever you want...regardless of expectations..." She said slowly, attempting to save herself as she looked away, trying to act like everything was fine as they left the city. "You suppose...? That's not encouraging..." This was ridiculous, she seemed to be bothered by everything now and she did not like this feeling. It was silly, there was no reason to when they weren't even...it didn't matter. "Yeah." She shrugged, not about to go into it. Her past was full of all kinds of messes and she didn't want to think about any of it right now.

Mathias was, without a doubt, stubborn and often reluctant to accept help. He simply didn't trust people enough and yet there was something about Adalei that made her seem trustworthy. He wasn't sure whether to be happy about that or terribly frightened. Nonetheless he found himself comfortable where he was and reluctant to move. He had his eyes closed and was partially asleep but he could hear Adalei moving about the room a bit, almost tempted to take a quick peek just to find out what she was doing, ultimately he let it go. It wasn't until there was the warm pressure of a blanket and the soft click of a light switch that woke him from his half-asleep state. He peered through the darkness, watching her climb into her bed, turning his attention towards the blanket on him. He pouted softly but he drew the blanket a little tighter around him, closing his eyes again. "What kindness..." he grumbled stubbornly. He buried his face in his arms again with the blanket tucked tightly around him, a comforting warmth washing over him. Thank you anyways... he thought but the words never left his lips.

Kai glanced back at her, raising an eyebrow "Why? Are you jealous?" he replied curiously but his tone had a small edge of playfulness to it. He looked away and shrugged, subconsciously running his thumb across the back of her hand. "I can't really say...dating has never really crossed my mind of 'things to do'." he continued. In truth he's never even considered it, though assuming the circumstances were different he supposed it might've been possible. He frowned and shook these thoughts from his head, it hardly mattered. He wasn't all that interested anyways. His gaze flickered back towards Ellie for a moment, a strange feeling fell over him but he couldn't quite place it. Happiness perhaps? "Hmm well strange people can be dangerous, therefore in that case it would be a bad thing. Assuming said strange person was nice, then it would be a good thing right?" he pointed out. He was curious about her past but he let it go for now, leading the way back to the house.

Adalei settled down further, keeping her injured elbow on top of the blanket to keep it safe and in the fresh air. The bandage was in the way, but it needed to heal a bit more before she could walk around without. She didn't want a bunch of blood dripping everywhere, that would drive any vampire crazy whether Night or Daywalker and she didn't need a whole bunch trying to sink their fangs into her. Not that they would be able to, but still. Her eyes closed after a few moments as the silence filled the air, it sounded as if he had fallen asleep though she couldn't be too sure yet. How did one tell if a vampire was asleep without looking at them up close? Did they snore or something? That had not been in her studies though the fact that they did sleep from time to time had been. They needed to restore their energy, especially after a bad injury, just like every other creature on this planet. She opened her eyes, feeling a bit startled, when he spoke, a frown crossing her lips. "...you may try passing yourself off as a huge jerk but you're not. You can deny the kindness all you want but I've seen the truth." She replied softly, practically whispering though she knew he would hear her.

Ellie frowned slightly. He hit the nail right on the head but she didn't want to admit it, not even to herself. "Whatever." She muttered, keeping her gaze anywhere else but on him at the moment. They were outside at night so she had the perfect reason for not looking at him, she did have to keep an eye out for anybody. Most Nightwalkers she supposed would be on their way back inside, but one never knew. It wasn't a good idea to let her guard down either way, even of she was a little upset. "Okay." Again, it was his business really and that was that. He didn't owe her an explanation just as she didn't owe him one, not that she had anything at the moment to explain. Her mind was blank, she didn't want to think though she had to be careful. If she wasn't then Sin would try to take over and who knows what she would say right now. "So I'm dangerous...?" Ellie had been told that many times and had already thought so herself, but to hear him say that burned a little as the hundreds of people she's hurt directly, and indirectly, came to mind. A wince crossed her features and she stiffened up, life truly has been cruel to her and she still didn't know what she's done to deserve it.

"Stubborn human..." he mumbled in return though his tone was surprisingly gentle. Whether that was out of kindness or simple exhaustion not even he knew. He kept his eyes closed and curled into the warmth of the blanket, feeling oddly comfortable where he was at. Adalei was a strange one, no doubt about that, and he was left feeling puzzled. She was kind to him despite his aggressive nature towards her, willing to help him, and seemingly accepting of people. Though all of that was just a brief observation, after all, he's only known her for couple of hours now he imagined. Perhaps less, time was beginning to blur together and it was hard to decipher how much time has passed. Yet in the end, deep down, he enjoyed the company. It wasn't like he hung around people these days and those that managed to find him he often pushed away. He was beginning to feel so alone.

Kai could sense they were nearing the small home, feeling a wave of relief fall over him. However, he didn't let his guard down and wouldn't until he was certain she was safe from the others of the city. It was strange to feel so wary of the city he once wandered free of fear and concern. His gaze flickered towards her for a moment, a mixture of surprise and confusion crossing his expression. Is she jealous? he pondered, such an idea seemed silly. He didn't bring it up though and simply looked away again. He let silence fall between them for a moment, until she spoke again and this time it made his steps falter. He slowed to a stop and turned to face her, a small frown furrowed his brows. "Ellie...you are not dangerous. That doesn't mean you're weak either though...I believe you're only dangerous to those who threaten the people you care about. And dangerous isn't a bad thing..."

[You pick who we go to next. c:]

Adalei rolled her eyes and smiled softly but she didn't say a word more. Her body felt very heavy all of a sudden and she realized just how tired she was from all her searching and stuff. She hadn't made much time for resting, waking up early each day to go out and look again. Now that one of her main goals was completed she could relax and get some proper rest, regain the energy she's lost. He was so stubborn, but he needed someone to help him back on to the right path and that was going to take a lot of energy in itself since she knew he wasn't going to make it that easy for her. The vampire wolf hybrid didn't seem the type, but she wasn't the type to easily give up. Wondering if she got that trait from her birth father, whoever he was, she pulled the blanket up to her chin and closed her eyes. Sleep was slowly overcoming her although part of her didn't want to sleep yet. However he seemed to be falling asleep himself and she didn't want to be awake by herself. She shook her head and took a deep breath, helping her body to relax.

Ellie felt clouded so she didn't sense the house, knowing she shouldn't let herself be so distracted but she couldn't help it. Though she seemed strong she was sensitive and it was easy to hurt her feelings at time. She wasn't as bad as she used to be when she was younger and had no idea how to control her emotions whatsoever. Her family back then had helped her learn how, but she still struggled from time to time. Mostly after using her stronger gifts since it took her more time to heal after those and the day before she had been using them for quite awhile. She rubbed her face, nearly running right into him when he stopped all of sudden. Not realizing why until her spoke and she looked away. He had been right the first time, she was dangerous for him. Every second he stayed was another opportunity for someone to hurt him. They were so different from one another and people didn't like this...whatever it was. Yet it wouldn't be the smartest idea to say any of this, she knew what he would say if she did. She had no idea what to say actually.
