Like a New User-Veteran User sort of thing? That's a great idea, I'd love to see that back as well. I'll let B know!

All that would do is promote shitposting and comparison between memebers, and likely lead to bullying based on your "rank"

Now if it just says if they're new or if they've been around for forever, that's different

It would promote increased activity, and some level of shitposting is expected in OT. Any "rank bullying" would be quelled.

I think the rank titles would be amusing enough to see, such as hitting your 10K post and reaching the rank of "No Life" or something just as ridiculously amusing.

I was only comparing other sites' rank system. This one could be either automatically updated by time spent, "New user," "Regular," etc; or manually by making writing tests in order to strive forward towards a higher rank. Competivity isn't always bad, and it often invites others to best themselves or set a higher standard to their writing. Just like there's others who simply don't care.

The system isn't bad, a toxic community is what makes it bad.

But any gathering of people, on any level, has some amount of toxicity to it

A community can be good if it works together despite its members' discrepancies. One step at a time, you can make a great one with harmless levels of toxicity; it depends greatly on the group's individual and collective maturity.

Making writing tests in order to strive forward towards a higher rank.
... Up as a full, different feature along with the regular ranking one.

To be honest, I think ranking systems based on writing skill and other such abilities promote a snobby, elitist attitude; and I really don't like that in a forum. It makes newbies feel small compared to everyone else, especially when it has to do with their own intelligence.

On the other hand, a ranking system based on user reputation is a good idea. Not just on writing skill, but on general helpfulness in the forum as well. A forum I used to use had a system that allowed users to up/down vote other users, thus raising or lowering their status. To prevent abuse, you could limit the number of times they can vote in a given amount of time, either on a single player or in general.

This is just my opinion, of course.
